Some of you may have noticed that our old club website ( www.oldenorthstatecruisers.com ) is no longer functional and in its place is a link to www.onsc4x4.com, which our new site! I will be changing the old site URL to point directly to our new host in the next couple of days.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, this new website has been pushed into "production" at least a week ahead of schedule as our old site was taken down unexpectedly. Our new content management system ( WordPress ) is up and *mostly* functional. It is, at least in my opinion, easier to navigate + use than the old site.

I've been developing this site in my spare time in the past ~2 weeks. I haven't built out all of the pages yet, but the Calendar, Galleries and News pages are fully functional with some content for you guys to interact with. Joe gave me all of the old site's posts, so I've got those uploaded, archived and searchable. Take her for a test drive!


Enhancements over the last site:
- Easier administration
- Easier navigation
- More plugin extensibility

I've also upgraded our club's PayPal account to a business account so I can integrate it directly with our website. This will allow us to facilitate:
- New ONSC Membership applications, membership renewals and.......ONSC MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS!! Never forget to pay your dues again!
- Automated registration and payment for club events


This thread will serve as the club's forum to provide suggestions for, or complain about, the new site. I will continue to build out the new site, including the creation of accounts for all ONSC members, so you can make posts and upload content as well.


Long story short, new site is up, so please check it out and give me your feedback! Don't be shy, the only way this site will be great is if we get tons of feedback from the people who will use the site the most.

Glad to hear you are taking point on this, I've got nothing to offer but content (thousands of pics dating back to '06 when I first met ONSC members Eric & Stacy), I can have you over for a beer sometime if you want to review the library for any pics you might like to use...

It's the least I can do for everything the club has done for me. I'm brand new to web site development and therefore onsc4x4.com is my first site!

Thanks Brett! I agree, it'll only get better with more content. Over the next week or so I'll be creating member accounts for everyone so everyone can create calendar events and make posts on the forum. All usernames will be <firstname>.<lastname> to make it easy to know who is who.





In addition, earlier today I finished building out our new membership registration page!! Now everyone can join, renew their membership and enroll in a membership subscription through the website!!! We now take regular PayPal account transactions in addition to direct credit / debit cards. It's been tested and now I get an email every time someone pays the club. Check it out!!!

I posted my first on the new website yesterday, ran fine no problems. It's almost an exact duplicate of the mesage I placed in the President's thread, minus the BOD access information...

I like the highlighted activities coming up on the left side bar! And the 2 places to join/renew on the left and top bars...

Excellent. I'm glad it wasn't hard to figure out! WP seems to be much easier to post on / with.

I put both in there because I wasn't sure which spot I liked better. Having that link twice seems repetitive, but I can't decide which one to stick with. Thoughts?

I'll work on recreating the older articles from the old website with pictures during the week.

Ok, good, you scared me for a second :D Thanks man.

Unfortunately I didn't get any of the pictures from the old site, so all of the pictures that were hosted on the site are no longer there. I'll get together with Jerry to go over what he's got, but if you have any old pics, feel free to go in and upload them!
 
A couple more updates:

1. All domain names now point to our new host.
2. I put our club bylaws on the website ( seemed appropriate ) - http://onsc4x4.com/bylaws
3. I put up a FAQs section for generic club info and how-tos for a couple of things ( to be finished later ) - http://onsc4x4.com/bylaws/faqs/


Keep using it and keep giving me feedback!!
 
I like the calendar, and the interface with Google maps. NO reason for anyone not to know where we're meeting/riding/camping!

But, can the calendar show the meeting name, or just the color of the type of event?

That's a bug, that the calendar won't display the event name on the calendar page. It's because of this theme.

I haven't figured out how to fix it yet, but I'm working on it!
 
A bunch of more changes today. Now we're using a static front page instead of displaying the posts up front. Let me know how you all like it!!
