Regarding Richland Road:

Good Morning Steve,

I spoke with Sheriff Hagaman this morning in regards to your question concerning Off Road Vehicles on the listed roads mentioned in your question. I spoke with a Amy Annino with the NCDEQ “North Carolina Division of Water Resources” concerning your question, the NCDOT has abandoned the roadways listed above and it is now under private ownership. From what Ms. Annino stated is that the private owners are planning on putting up gates at each entrance to those roadways, that being said they have informed our office and the NCDEQ that they will prosecute anyone found to be trespassing on that roadway and or property, whether or not it’s Off Road vehicles or not. I hope this helps you with you decision on whether to attempted the trip in that area. If you have any more questions or not please let me know and I will find out what I can.

Yeah - I thought a lot of that was just trying to dissuade people traveling the road, and that the roads were still technically "roads" and not private driveway access...

I think the problem was people were looking at maps that aren't updated so it would show it is still a county road. No idea if new maps have been updated but i'm guessing that sheriff could shed some light on it.

Sucks either way another legal off road trail down the drain.

The county mapping systems still show the roads as county/state roads.

Having to deal with county mapping systems every day I will say it takes a while before updates will happen.... for a road as remote as that i'm sure they aren't in a huge rush. Normally they change yearly when it comes to smaller counties. I constantly have to double check on parcels that I know should read one way but still do a different way from before they were split, merged, etc.....
My rule of thumb is if there is a private property sign treat it as such and follow up if you think it is legal. The above would state it isn't legal any more and isn't the first time i've seen a post from someone that reached out to a county official and got the same response.
I'd say reach out yourself to be sure.

i'm not going up there - i don't need a kid with a banjo on a front porch and a guy with a cross bow chasing me around in the LX.

There’s wrenching involved, there’s a funny pic envolved, so I figured this was the best spot for this.

My Subaru motor died. So instead of throwing it away it’s now my coffee table thanks to someone that you guys might know. @Rice

Lots of work, and it’s pretty enough that my wife agreed it can be in the living room. I don’t even need to wait ‘till I get my man cave’

Rice is a comedian. :)

Always thought that a subie motor would make a good table with its dimensions.
