It does seem odd that the interested party was contacting me just hours after I posted for sale. Thank you both for the information. IF only life were so easy as to not have scammers trying to take my money. Wait, was that a slam on Fakebook? Thats for another heading-Rant.

Cool Toyota’s everywhere here in Grand Cayman today. Mark X.... lots of cool little squished face vans too

Guys and gals, I am in the process of listing my wife's Volvo for sale. I put it on autotrader.com/kbb.com on Monday. It looks like there are only five of these cars offered nationwide and my price is right in the middle of the others.

I received a curious offer via text message Monday night and have been emailing the guy. According to his text he is currently deployed and serving in the US Army at Fort Huachuca Military Base in Arizona. He is not able to call me because calls are currently restricted. He wants to purchase the car for his dad. He is offering to pay via PayPal my asking price, in addition to any fees PayPal charges, and have everything handled through the transport company for title transfer. My online skills are seriously lacking and while his information checks out a little bit (People Smart online snooping) the hair on the back of my neck is standing up. I have not done an online sale before so this is all new to me.

My issues:
PeopleSmart shows email address may lead back to a guy in his 20's who just passed away in Phoenix Arizona (or a mid 60's dude of the same name that could be the purchasers dad).

The purchaser's name does show up in PeopleSmart and he is in his mid 30's.

If he can't call me because of Base restrictions, how did he text me to begin with?

For those who have sold something online this way, it seems like PayPal will only let me withdraw $1000 a month so it would take four months to get all the money out of PayPal. Wife's Hundy purchase is scheduled for May.

Is there a safer way for me to do this?

I want to become a Luddite!!!!

this is a scam.

only cash deals in person is how you handle selling a used car.

I would keep the conversation going, tell him you are an Ethiopian princes cousin and need the car sold now, and the car has a $50,000 cash in the trunk but you don’t have a trunk key. The important part is to use the USPS for them to send you a certified check, they will, I have done this before. Then take the envelope to the nearest post office and ask to speak with their postmaster. Tell them you suspect fraud being perpetuated via USPS, and they will take it from there.

@Comet While I admire your skepticism, we need to work on your pessimism. But you're on the right path.

ANd here I thought you were a good stand up guy.

How's that?

Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!

So this just happened on F1. Wasnt driver fault. Its like watching Truck Night in America, you know is all wrong and painful to watch, but you keep going back to it.

Wasn't that dudes fault either.... wheel guy never got the old one off and the jack guy dropped the car off the jack before the chief called everyone off to abandon the wheel change.... Hope it wasn't a loose center lug on that thing when it drove off.

You should call the habitat restore locations and see if they have any envirocoolers left ;)

Dont think I want to check that on the return trip..., but now that you mentioned it, I do know a few guys coming to relic run if there happen to be any left floating around the NC. :D

and we think we are bad . . . these people buy cars that neither float/sail nor drive correctly and spend $65K on crapped out ones:
