Welcome, Zach!

There are a lot of knowledgeable people in this club that are willing to help. I just tackled the dreaded p0401 code you are probably fighting. Normally it is the EGR VSV, which is under the manifold. Grab a FSM if you dont have one already, it will teach you a BUNCH!

So in MUD speak.. how many bananas is the VSV job?

Also.. In may quest to learn more and more, I'm always available to help out with any project that you all are working on in the Charlotte area. Just let me know!

Welcome, Zach.

You can also place a resistor on the plug in the harness at the EGR sensor. I went thru all the normal troubleshooting and parts, and still had the P0401 code. All that was left was replacing the egr sensor. Rice hooked me up with a resistor, and the P0401 code went away. I looped the vac lines on each other, and closed up the connectors so it doesnt look tampered with.

Theres a thread in the 80 series section (maybe one in the ONSC section) about the resistor trick.

@Rice I ended up buying 5 ST225/75 R15 E Rated at 2830 @ 80 PSI. I would have to change hubs to go to 16" and at that point I'd have just bought bigger axles to go with them :) I'll run these and see how it goes.

Now I need a couple new fenders

I do love my 80, but also love driving the enemy. Coming near you with a new diesel and coil spring options.....its purdy...

Discovery 5 – What You Need to Know

They are great vehicles for sure.

I love off roading and overlanding i'm not really a one brand type of guy (although I do love chevy engines)

I will still say the best all around 4x4 we ever got in the US was the 80 series cruiser (may not have been the best at any one thing but had the best balance)

If I was going to buy a new 4x4 it would be a 4 door wrangler. It is the current best all arounder and most companies don't eve put out a "real" 4x4 anyway.

Chevy got rid of the blazer and the new suburban could not get over a speed bump.

Ford got rid of the ranger and bronco

Toyota is just priced too high for most people to afford

Land Rover the same

No more isuzu or mitsu in the 4x4 market

Dodge hasn't really had one since the ram charger went bye bye

The power wagon and raptor do alright but are still too large for most trails (but would make good overlanders)

The G wagen is way too expensive, etc......

To add to @lt1fire 's comments... My FJC was the first new vehicle I ever bought, but I doubt I'll buy new ever again. Now that I know what I want out of a truck, I'll buy 5-10 year old used and fix what needs fixing. Not that I'm planning on getting rid of the FJC any time soon, it's exactly what I need for an offroad vehicle.

Land Rover probably figured out their market and are pandering to it, i.e. my sister, my wife..... Having gone to quite a few "owners' day events" at the Biltmore, where you get to drive your truck on the school trails, the demographics are very, lets say, high crust vanilla. I will leave it at that.

Still, I love driving it, awesome power from the V-8 and quiet ride on top, beautiful interior and supercomfortable for old folks, amazing response on the chasis and wheel, utterly useless navigation system. I wouldn't take it where I take my 80 though.

My wife and I laughed a lot when he described the nav system at 4:57 on this review. "Great vehicle, but not for expedition"

Ha, it's been there for a month now, as they are letting me borrow a lift and I can only work on it during weekends. New rear main, newish t-case, lined the tunnel with butyl rubber/foil deadening material, new rear calipers, soft/hard lines on rear axle, new third member. Waiting on prop shafts to be rebuilt, then headed to exhaust shop for final touches.

There was a guy with a Subaru that started hanging around with the Northeasters, FJC club. Guy was delusional and came in with big swagger. Well he went to Raushe Creek and beat the snot out of it just trying to keep up on mild trails. He disappeared not long after.

Let us know how he does Izzy. The guys in his trail group were not pleased.

Love my subaru... But I went the other way and lowered it with some teins. Grassy fields and snowy parking lots are a blast...

Well, I guess there is no reason Mabel can't go on trails.

:meh: meh...
I like me a Suby and they're great for what they are, but the toughest thing about Hell's Revenge is the name. When I was younger and dumb(er) I took a Tercel on parts the Catamount Trail (shh don't tell anyone! That behaviour is NOT Tread Lightly cetified) in VT every bit as hard as that - granted I banged up the underbits a tad but...
