I have been active in an organization called the Friends of Jawbone [FOJ] for a little over a year now. It is an amazing group of individuals representing one of the broadest cross-sections of stakeholders I've ever encountered. At ONE table, SIMULTANEOUSLY, there are representatives of:
Federal-BLM Ridgecrest office
State-California OHMVR commission[ off-highway-motorized-vehicle-recreation]
State-Red Rock Canyon State Park
State-State Assemblyman Rex Moen
State-Leaugue of Cities
County-Kern County Board of Supervisors
County-Kern County Sheriff's Department
County-L.A. County Sheriff's Department
City-California City P.D.
as well as business representatives for
American Honda
wind energy
solar energy
geothermal energy
and user groups:
District 37 AMA[American Motorcycle Association
C.O.R.V.A.{California Off Highway Vehicle Association]
Cal 4 Wheel
Friends of Panamint Valley
Friends of Last Chance Canyon

And more amazing yet, month after month, they will sit at this table and have a frank dialogue on the concerns of the day and how to coordinate responses to them. I think it is a model organization.

Born out of a sense of frustration over illegal OHV use in Jawbone, I drafted up some language for a potential billboard and gave it to the President of FOJ, Ed Waldheim about 8 months ago. Ed's a very busy man, and I never heard another word about it since. I assumed by now that he'd just politely taken my idea to avoid hurt feelings. Boy was I wrong!

I showed up at the Jawbone Station yesterday to help clean up some language on a construction contract for them, and this is what I found!

Oh yeah, here's the pic!

That's a GREAT sign ... I just hope the idiots can read. :meh:

and I hope I can put my hands around the neck of the first person who shoots it!

Nicely done Mark, Jerod and Dave... your active participation and involvement in inspiring.

It would be nice if the TLCA could make up vinyl banners that say just that and ask state officials/ohv parks/etc to post them up. Just another hair brained idear from a bald guy. :hillbilly:

Well done gents!

The website on the sign should be jawbone.org ;)

Good sign, though.
