OK, i am still having to pump my clutch once to get pressure. I have bled the system and then bled again and again and still nothing. WHAT AM I MISSING!!!! I also have a 85' and the clutch in that is solid..no play. I have gone through two master's, thinking that was the proble, but i now know that it isn't the master. Its not leaking anywhere. Where else should i be looking.

FYI...my slave is fine and i have adjusted that accordinally.

I agree with Steve. Did you bleed the master cylinder?

You mean bench bleed? Then yes.

Is there an O-ring or a copper washer where the reservoir fits on the master? If there is a leak here, fluid may not leak out but air can be sucked in.

Did you check your freeplay in the slave? Excessive amount will cause that. And you didn't install a "return" spring like one dumba$$ I know did? It squeezed fluid out of the slave and back into the master and it required the two-pump.
I think freeplay should be about 5mm.
Sorry about your woes.
Signed,
Dumba$$
Ed ;)

Yeah, what are you talking about, Ed? A return spring INSIDE the slave?

I have not seen a clutch slave without one yet. I'd think you'd get excessive throwout bearing wear if you did not have a return spring as there is nothing to pull the throwout bearing back with.

Sounds like maybe Ed's friend "dumbass" chose a spring that was a little "tense"?? :D

Sur, did you get the brakes plumbed in like I told you to a couple days ago?? :whoops:

A sure way to bleed (but messy) is to fill sysyem from bottom up. With everything connected but slave unbolted turn slave up and with piston removed fill with fluid. Now replace carefully replace piston pushing fluid and air to master. Done this on the trail when by myself worked great. Good luck.

major hijack here, but i didn't understand the messy bleed upside down option, and two, tobydog, that is the cutest/ ugliest puppie i have seen since my recently departed spot was 6 weeks old (sheite that was over 6 years ago)

what about if you try pinching the rubber hose between the master and slave and see how that feels . the pedal should be rock hard ,if not then you no something up with master . if hard problem is down at slave . just a guess to try and isolate where the air is ,if it is air .
