Just bought a 2016 LC 200 and recently joined the forum. I previously had a series of Range Rovers loved the idea, hated the reality. Very expensive scitzophrenic(?) cars. Swung to the other extreme and bought the best car I've ever owned, FJ Cruiser. No drama, just ran and ran. Cheap to drive and maintain. Thought this was common to all Toyota products so thought I'd step up and buy an 2016 LC 200 w 13k miles, to be delivered on Wednesday. But now having read all the complaints about 8 speed transmission issues. Worried I'm back in drama camp like when I owned the range rovers.

I think I need to stop reading this forum. Please someone talk me off the ledge!

You are going to love it. Welcome to Mud!!

I moved over from Land Rover. I bought a new 2016 LC. Love it. No issues.

"Forum Effect". It happens on any vehicle forum. You'll get past it once you drive it a bit and realize what a fantastic vehicle you just purchased. With an LC, the idea matches the reality.

Similar, but different... Said bye, bye to Mercedes for Lexus & Toyota and haven't looked back... The new Merc's are tempting sometimes until you see the old familiar service department... Where every warranty compliant begins with "Customer alleges XXX doesn't function" even after the service manager cannot get "XXX to function correctly, themselves"... Didn't buy a $90,000.00 car to be called a liar and look like a petty pain in the ass...

I really like/love the low key presence of the LC... 95% of the folks don't know what it is... When people ever do ask, I just tell them it's bigger than a Highlander but smaller than a Sequoia...

Is it really smaller than the Sequoia?

Yes. Definitely smaller interior...but then the H1 Humvee also has a smaller interior. ;)

But look at the weight between the two:

The 2WD Sequoia can be had as light as 5730 lbs...with the heaviest (4WD) version coming in at 5985 curb weight.

The SMALLER but TOUGH LC weighs a full 5815 lbs curb weight--which points to some serious hardware going into the LC to come that close to the Sequoia.

Really, really.
WHOAAA!!!

Not even the point of my comments... No longer driving the Mercedes and OP's Range Rover and switching to "Toyoda" products is a joy... Basically, attempting to communicate the LC is a low profile $80,000+ vehicle that 95% of the car buying public is not aware exists, nor has any idea of its market value. Sorry for the confusion and offending a fellow Land Cruiser owner. ...and just for the record the LC has an overall length of 195" and the Sequoia has and overall length of 205", so it is "really, really" smaller than a Sequoia, respectfully.

A 4WD Sequoia loaded up "Platinum style" pushes the scales way over 6,000+ pounds... Heavier than the LC too...

I don't think anyone was offended. :)

Have you had any issues with your transmission? Do you know your build date?

In any case, I would not worry about what you've read about the 8 speed in the 2016+ LCs. The internet - especially a vehicle-specific forum, amplifies any vehicle problems (and attributes) and may make them seem far more common than they actually are.

Hell, by reading the Breckenridge 2017 thread, you would think everyone in the country drives a completely modded 200!

I have no evidence for this, but if I were to guess, I'd guess that Toyota takes reports of transmission issues in the LC more seriously than it would in any other vehicle in it's lineup. My guess is they likely already found and fixed the issue that arose in earlier iterations of that 8 speed.

I've posted about some things I don't necessary like about the transmission because I came from a BMW M vehicle and transmission there was a lot smoother, but is it a problem or a reason to turn me away from the 2016+ LC? No.

I test drove a 2016. I thought the transmission was fine, although not as smooth as the 6 speed in the 08-15. I would not hesitate to buy one.

If you want to see what a bad transmission feels like, drive one of the new Tacomas.

I've driven a 2016 LX570 and I found that if you were tentative off the line, then it seemed that the transmission was taking its time getting through gears, but if you accelerated fairly heavily, it was just GO! I think that it learns too from your driving style.
