sry will post pics.

Does it feel like you are cranking the hell out of the nuts?

Are you putting a lot of strength into them?

No offense to your weldor, but that weld is not the greatest. Also, why is the bar in the middle of the spring plate? It is not stock.

I believe you problems stem from a modified plate, not over tightening the U bolts...

get some stock plates and call it good..

Um, yeah. That isnt a weld. We call that bird poo. Sorry, but I'm gonna be honest. The plate is pretty much ruined.

You have the retaining plate installed on your new OME springs.

You are supposed to remove it.

Take it off, add supplied spacers to top of rear spring packs and voila!

:( bout the welds, i knwe something was wrong, he even said not to even bother grinding it down.

i didnt get a 'supplied' spacer

i know the previous owner got aal on the stock springs, maybe the plate was modified then.

Possibly, but it still should bolt together easier.

The plates kiline is referring to basically make up the space between the size of the center pin holes in the spring pad/plate and the actual size of the spring pins themselves.

Actually, if it were me, I would just get a set of the U bolt skid plates and bolt them on. Super sturdy. If you decide to just get another set of stock plates someone might have a set for you on here. ANYTHING has to be better than the ones you have on there. I have seen some scary stuff but those are realyl unsafe. Do not drive the rig till you have this problem fixed..

I just knew they had to be removed and replaced with the spacers (which is really like a widening spacer) so the holes on the axle and the spring would match up and not shift around.

Go with Mace he is a pro. :D

Is it a problem if I re-installed the retaining plate that wraps over the top of the spring and the sides? I did not re-use the rubber isolator on top, but fitting the hole in the retaining plate with the supplied spring pin isolator. I also re-used the rubber pads on the bottom of the springs since they were still quite nice for 20 years old.

BTW did anyone notice that Lost had only one u-bolt cranked down instead of evenly distributing the torque across all nuts until it was time to torque or is it just me?

I wanted to find out for sure myself, so I contacted ARB USA. They advised me to re-install the retaining plate and rubber isolators, both top and bottom. I've read various other reports on the mud board of what to do, but this is what they told me. By re-using the retainer, you may end up needing a spring packer and/or a spacer to make sure everything fits tight while at the same time making sure you don't run out of thread when tightening the u-bolts. If the rubber isolator is used on the top, you will also need to check to see if the spring pin is long enough to seat well in the axle perch. It may be necessary to switch out the spring pin with one that has a longer head. I can't understand why they don't have this information available on their website.

Hey Hoppie I bought my "kit" through Man-A-Fre and I used their supplied spring pin isolators with the retainer plate. After taking turns I would hear a knock from the rear so just a few minutes ago I took off the retaining plate and the knock is gone. Looking at it I don't really see a reason for the retainer plate since there's already a center pin. I would advise leaving it off so you don't run into the same annoying knock issue I did and have to redo it over again.
