I've been sporting OME 2721 since I was slightly heavier than stock, but have added a lot of weigh and have lost rear height. I think I've probably compressed past the first stage and am riding on my second stage. I was going to throw some trim packers in, but that seems like a bandaid.

I think I'm going to take a shot with OME 2724 springs. They are a little stiffer (60 lbf/in), but (5 mm) shorter than the 2723. 50 lbf/in more than my 2721, and probably 15mm longer than the compressed position they are in. I think that'll get my rear height back and adjust for the heavier loads.

What really I'd like is a progressive 350/400 lbf/in with a 435/445 free length. I think this would fit both my daily and travel configs better.
  • Daily - Dissent rear bumper and a single swingout with tire, LRA 12.5 gal auxillary tank, Trekbox bravo cargo drawers with cargo, 60% side Trekboxx storage platform, Gamiviti rack.
  • Trips - add the Alucab aluminum tent, 50 liter National Luna fridge on Alucab tilt slide, bins with camping/cooking gear, kitchen gear, jerry can swing out with 1-3 jerry cans of water or gas.
I've compiled the following about OME from Mud searches:

Does this seem like sound reasoning?

I may also toss airbags in, but am 50/50 on whether I want to bother, since I don't tow heavy and don't tow often.

Any guidance or advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Also, if anyone has a set of 2724 to sell, please drop me a line.

Thanks!

I did more research than I probably should have bothered with when I did this, too:

I went with the Ironman ones in orange. They seemed like OME 2723-equivalents, and were half the cost. I only have one drawer, no tent, and no LRA. I love my setup, but if I had that extra weight I might consider something stiffer. What are your axle weights though? I'm 3540# front, 3700# rear with 2 people and a tank of gas but nothing else and I'd really base my recommendation to you more on actual weights at a scale than on named mods.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't have any place to weigh my vehicle's f/r axle weights around here, at least that I can find. We don't have Cat scales or anything like that I can find. I'll dig a little deeper to see if I may have missed anything.

If there's no Love's gas station you might check the local Tractor Supply or farms with grain elevators. I see scales at truck stops off the highway all the time but I'm not how far you are from an interstate

I have a very similar setup for both daily and trips. Other than the kaymar rear with dual swings (tyre and 2 Jerry cans) these cone off for daily.
I went from the 2721 to the 2723, I too was observing the same coil bind on the 2721's light rate part.
I also run air bags, which daily I run at 3psi, fully loaded for a trip up to 20 psi.
This rides very nice and gives me the adjustability from daily to trips I need

Im currently running the 2724. I have a 40 gallon LRA, dual swingout , double drawer system with a fridge. Ride height is right where I want it, but in offroad situations the rebound is extremely strong once the suspension bottoms out. I have thought of two different methods to address this. Either go to a lower rate spring, and run airbags when Im heavily loaded, or run a rear shock that has rebound settings (like dobinsons MRR

Another 'mud member very generously hooked me up with a set of OME 2724 springs, so I'm going to try them out. Looking forward to seeing what the impact is. I'll post more before/after install measurements and feedback.

Incidentally, the cargo box system I'm running with second row platform is around 310 lb -empty.

When you had your kings built did you anticipate all that load? If not, any plans to update them?

Wow, I didn't expect that system to be that heavy.

I am a little bummed to hear that the 2721's aren't cutting it with the added weights as that's what I am currently running. They work for now given that I don't have drawers, LRA, or a rear bumper but all of those are planned for in the future. I guess I'll be doing a coil swap at that time as well. For now they work great, my only regret is not going with the 3" OME instead, but I am considering adding trim packers out back and the OEM top hate spacers up front to get a slight bump until I replace it all with MRA's next year.

I didn't anticipate the load, and yes, I plan to rebuild them myself this summer. I'm hoping Ben can advise me on the shim stack.

I'll be interested in what you find both on the rebuild and Filthy's help.

2721 might be fine for your setup. I may go back to my 2721s. I just seem unable to leave well enough alone.

Springs are so easy to R&R and even at full retail aren't that expensive. It is an easy thing to play with and zero lock in to any given choice.

I am also prioritizing my desire to regain some clearance, every little bit adds up on trail. I added 1/2" with 34" tires and then lost it with a heavier cargo system. Net zero gain from the tires. And I've been heeding people's advice on 34 vs 35" tires, so I've maxed out my potential tire gain.

PS. I have cargo boxes AND second row platform boxes, of the solid, heavy kind, so that is why the system weight is what it is. It is also as quiet as a mouse and worth every penny to get that. :)

I got the 2724s on and they are perfect.

I had rust between the progressive portion of the 2721 coils leading me to beileve they were compressed and rubbing each other.

The 2724 rides great, reduces body roll, and seems to improve handling.

I gained 1-1/4" of lift on both sides with the 2724 as compared to measurements just prior to swapping, which is further evidence that I was overwhelming the progressive portion of the 2721s. Note, this was measured after a long test drive to settle the suspension.
