Just bought some "slightly" used struts and when I recieved the package I see this. The coil is misaligned with the lower bucket. The coil has clearly been contacting the UCA or spindle b/c there is a rusty notch out of it. Is this easily fixed and what caused it?

This should be fixable by dis-assembling the coils and reassembling them and clocking them correctly. They look like they were not clocked correctly and then installed, which caused the spring to rotate and flex. You will need tom compress the springs in order to dis-assemble them. If you are not comfortable with doing that find a local shop that you trust that can reassemble the springs for you.

One tid-bit of information that might be helpful during reassembly. The notch on the lower spring seat needs to face towars the engine bay when installed.

Good luck!

if the coil is not sitting in the black bucket properly (to the right of the photo), you can use spring compressors to take pressure off that end and spin the bucket to line up w/ the coil end properly. You don't have to disassemble, which would be a pita.

If you do disassemble, please please please know what you are doing.

A slight bullet type condition will occur if you unbolt that improperly (not compressed/secured).

Still dont understand what caused the spring to move/rotate but I took it to a shop with a HD compressor and indexed and seated it properly. I hope that it doesnt return to this state after I install the assemblies.

Can someone tell me what the little brass colored spacer is thats located under the spring cup. That spacer is only on the driver side shock. Is it a trim packer?

didn't have one on my sister's truck...have a pic?

Sounds like a packer to try and level out the "cruiser lean" perhaps?

it is a OME trim packer. The prev. owner used it to level out the ride.
