hello,
i am new to this forum and have some questions for an OME lift.
i have a 99 LC which i would like to lift a couple of inches.
i don't wheel that much (couple times a year) and don't have plans on a winch.
i do plan on purchasing TJM front & rear bumpers in the future.
don't know if i should go with the medium or heavy duty.
also, what can i expect to pay for labor for this install?
(entire kit, with 4 shocks, rear springs, front torsion bars, and diff drop).
any advise is greatly appreciated.
regartds.
John

i just bought an OME 866 HEAVY KIT with diff drop a month ago.. i don't have a front or rear bumper yet, i'm planning on buying in few months.. only mods i have are.., SLEE STEP SLIDER and BFG 285'S.. ride is a little stiff but i like it.. this is my Daily Drive and i don't do lots of wheeling as well.. you can go with OME 863 spring if you want stiffer and more lift on the rear.. i installed my kit myself, very easy.. except for the torsion bars i couldn't remove it... i had to take it to a mechanic, they had to flame it..

PS.. buy your kit at SLEEOFFROAD and ask for BEN, very helpful...

the med is fine for me
get slee diff drop.:D

Even with the bumpers, it depends on how loaded down you plan to be, and how to expect it to ride day to day. I have been using the OME medium deluxe kit from Slee with 295's, Slee sliders and a TJM front bumper for 30K. So far, I am very happy with the setup. However, I plan to add a Slee rear bumper with tire carrier, a winch, 2nd fuel tank, etc in the next 6 months. At that point I plan to "upgrade" to the OME heavy 865 rear springs. If possible, try to drive a truck with each setup. Where do you live? As far as installation, you need to call around. Slee did mine as I'm only 30 miles away!

The lift is pretty easy to install yourself, but I have a buddy that paid ~ $700 for the install in South FL. I have 866 installed with the factory rear bumper. It is a little bumpier in the back, but I don't mind.

The spring rate you select for the rear is based on your preference and we all have different views on what may be too harsh. For me after owning and lifting multiple Toyotas and Jeeps a medium spring rate is the preference. My land cruiser is meant to be a comfortable vehicle for trips around town, long road trips, and trail rides. I really did not want to be constantly reminded that I installed heavy duty springs by feeling any more of the dynamics of the driving surface than necessary. A heavy duty spring provides load carrying capacity but can be pretty rough for city driving and road trips when the vehicle is not loaded with the weight necessary to compress the spring. My recommendation is to go with a medium spring and then upgrade to something heavier later if you find the medium springs are not heavy enough. The medium rear springs and the OME torsion bars are firmer than the OEM springs. You will notice a significant increase in spring rate, reduction in body roll, and an increase in overall stability. The limo like ride of your 99 will be gone once you install the new suspension, even with the medium spring rate.

Regarding installation cost I am not sure. The work took me, by myself, about 7 hours in a garage without a lift ect. Since mine was a CA car there were no rust or corossion issues to deal with all the parts easily unbolted and reinstalled with basic tools.

Good advice though he has stated that a rear bumper is planned for. The second he adds it, the mediums will bottom out often and the rear will be less stable.

Rear bumper = Heavy spring kit

No way around it....not a matter of preference. And lord...if there's four folks in there? = Bounce bounce :D

You're going to want stiffer than 865's for what you have planned for the rear end of your rig ;).

not to hi jack, but how tall does the rig stand when done with the lift? I know there are many variables, but say with just the OME lift and 285's.

hey travis do you know where yor friend had the lift done? was in the tampa area?

It was in Miami. I don't recall the name of the place. Custom something or other. I can find out if you need it.

I start watching at 7', but mine sits somewhere between 78 and 82 inches depending on the load.

thanks but miami is to far I have friends and family in tampa/ st pete and travel there alot. im just gonna get it done here in jersey at ok4wd. thanks again
