I finally got around to installing the OME 861/862 springs and 10mm spacers I gave myself for Christmas. The install was super straight forward... used the Slee instructions and did the whole thing on 3ton jack stands in my driveway in about 3 hours. I had a couple of observations and lessons from the process though.

For starters, it would be super helpful if your craftsman floor jack doesn't fail during the first spring install. Garbage. Second, I ended up not disconnecting the front sway bar. I had plenty of axle droop to get the spring out, so no big deal. I did notice the sway bar bushings were pretty distorted when the axle was at full droop, so I'd probably disconnect it next time just to save the poor ancient bushings. The rear springs were a little more problematic. It's crucial you have tall enough jack stands back there. I didn't and ended up using some pretty unsafe methods to get it done. The worst was trying to find a stable place to put the bottle jack between the axle and frame, especially on the passenger side. For me, the jack was pressing up on a rubber bump stop, which squirmed a ton and ended up spitting the jack out at me, no less than 15 seconds after I shoehorned the new ome spring into place. The cruiser slammed down on the jack stand (which wasn't tall enough so the frame had lifted off of it when i was separating axle from frame) and trapped the spring in place before I had a chance to position it correctly. It's close enough though. Learn from my mistakes please!

The springs themselves are awesome! The ride is not harsh at all. It's actually smoother than before, unlike some others who have stated the heavys up front are too harsh without extra weight (which I don't have, btw). No new vibes or squirrely castor issues on the highway.

I ended up netting about 1.5" all around. Before I was between 19.5" and 20", after I'm at 21.5" everywhere but rear diver's side, where I have just over 21". Keep in mind I threw the 10mm spacers in there. It looks perfect to me, and I plan to get 265s in the near future.

One more thing, I ended up going with Mud advice and put the B spring on the rear passenger side. This conflicts with the Slee advice which says to put B springs on driver's side front and rear. I'm sitting almost perfectly level, so no complaints here.

Pics attached proving it happened. The one on the side of the road is before, other two are after.

looks good! Did you put in caster bushings or a steering stabilizer?

Thanks! I decided to hold off on the bushings and see how it drove first. So far so good. I've put about 200 miles on it and it handles about the same as with the stock springs. I'll get an alignment one of these days to make sure the caster is all good. Same with the steering stabilizer, i'll get to it one of these days.

Looks good! I got the 2.5 heavies in the front too and I love them. I have yet to do the back but I am planning to soon. Did you get the heavies or the mediums in the back? I did not replace the bushings or add a steering stabilizer yet. Mine drives fine as it is too.

Nice write up. I need to keep the jackstand thing in mind.

A set of year-old 861/862's mated with N70/71 shocks are being sold to me. I'm just running minimal coil spacers (around 10mm also) all around.

No idea how stiff the shock and springs are. I hope I get good results also since the selling price is attractive (owner getting a taller lift).

Are the springs marked as to where they go on the vehicle? How about the shocks?

The 861/862 springs are heavies up front and mediums in the rear. Love them so far!

I think you're gonna like the setup. With the spacers it's just right - definitely a noticeable lift but still looks right with stock sized tires. The shocks will be obvious which ones are fronts and rears (they don't differ left to right). The bottom mounting bolts are completely different. As far as the springs, the labels will probably be gone since they're used. Again, it'll be obvious which ones are front and rear (skinnier ones up front) and the taller springs go on the US drivers side.

Nice looking Cruiser! I like that color with no roof rack.

I'm a fan of these springs as well, got about 10k miles on them with no issues.

I find it interesting people ask about caster correction bushings on the stock height spring replacement. No reason to use them as they take you back to stock height.

Thanks dude! I was lucky to find a sage 40th with no rack or spoiler. No lockers either but I can live with that. Glad to hear you're still liking the springs. I've read posts from land tank and others suggesting using the caster bushings regardless but so far I can't tell a difference in handling. We'll see after the alignment I guess.

They take you above the stock height. I have them in my truck and the caster is right at the minimum. Christi from Slee in the past has said he has seen stock trucks that needed caster bushings. It depends on the truck.

Just wanted to post a better profile to show the new stance. Still hard to make out the wheel gap but I guess it's as good as its gonna get with an iPhone.

The lack of harshness may be attributed to the spring spacers you installed at the same time. I recently installed some 10mm on my rear 862 springs and was shocked at the improvement in ride quality over cracks and bumps in the road.

What material -- rubber?

I actually had thought of that when I was installing the spacers. Especially in the front where the stock setup is metal spring on metal perch. I'll agree that the spacers probably serve as bushings to further dampen road bumps. Mine were polyurethane btw.

Just another follow up... Finally got around to new tires and an alignment today. Suspicions confirmed. Caster is at 0.5 and 0.9 degrees left and right, respectively. That's definitely less than I was expecting from ome low lift and 10mm spacers but oh we'll, it is what it is. Guess I'm looking at Some bushings.

By the way, got 265/75/16 cooper discoverer at/3 tires. They are a huuuuge improvement over worn michelins. I'll post pics soon.

djsolution: about the tires, which Michelins where you using and improvement in which way?
