- This post is out of frustration and by no means do I blame the seller for me not ending up with the truck -

Consistent with the theme lately...I had this 40 in my sites this morning. Was posted to CL around 10am...I replied at 10:20ish. Pretty much said that I wanted the truck was coming with CASH and to please call me on my mobile.

Drive to Grantham (near Mt Olive) and still no call back. Send another email saying that I was there and needed the address. Not 5 minutes later I get a reply "it's sold". No other info...damn .

At least I saved the pics and a screen shot of the ad for ya'll to see.

Are you and Greg going to open a used car lot for land cruisers?? :grinpimp::lol:

More like a club for people that get screwed b/c of seller's lack of common curtosey...

Yes, it is my goal to own as many cruisers as possible until the :princess: cuts me off...as they say the one who dies with the most toys wins :D.

First, where are all these cruisers coming from? (must be the economy)
Second, who are they going to?

If I had to guess, i'd say car lots that are going to jack up the prices, collectors that use them as an investment and sell them off, or just some kid who thinks they are cool and has a few grand that they can buy their first car with.

I just ask one thing from the members of ONSC, if you tell someone something is for sale then actually sell it. Second use common courtesy when doing so, I know cash is king but if someon says they are going to take the time to drive and buy something or even leave a deposit don't go sell it to the next person because they are closer or got there faster.

I say this because of my past few experiences, just today I had all the details worked out. Spoke with the gentleman, agreed on a price, agreed on a bank to meet at to exchange titles/notaries, even discussed how we were going to load the truck. He even called me back to make sure I was paying CASH. Then I left with all the details laid out and confirming that it wouldn't be sold out from under me. I even offered to send the money before meeting them or seeing the truck, he told me that wasn't necessary "IT'S YOURS." So I proceeded to pick up the truck and trailer and hit the road. I was 30 minutes from my destination and I called the man to let him no I was running a little early, his response will be here waiting for you. About 10 minutes went by and he called me because the Old Man decided he wanted to keep the truck......were is the common courtesy. I even offered to pay another $500 bucks cause I was there already, his response he would but he just wants to keep the truck.

Again, I am not against someone wanting to keep there truck but those are details that need to be worked out before you spend the time to list it on 3 different cities craigslist ads.....

Just to confirm this is not the truck Jon went and looked at we were actually headed to different sides of the state today.

I feel your pain Greg, just on the other side of the deal.

Craig's List seems to bring the nuts out of the woodwork. I have two vehicles for sale right now and some of the folks I get calling me are out there to say the least. I've had a couple guys ARGUE the price, over the phone without having even laying eyes on it or taking it for a test drive. I explain that cash in hand and right there on the spot is a far better negotiation tool than giving me greif over the phone. ANyone can low ball over the phone, it costs nothing.

Common question, "What is your bottom line?"
My common answer "My bottom line is what someone with cash in hand offers me at the time and Ii am willing to take"

You guys must have nothing to do but look at Craigs list all day. I'm glad you posted up the pics on that one. I usually go to work at 5 get home at 7 and by the time I try to go back and look at these things they are long gone. I'm glad I'm not in the looking department right now though. It is amazing how many of them are showing up.

For instance a mechanic i have that did work on my truck called me today saying a guy dropped off a 75 FJ40 at his place for him to rebuild (I guess it is in parts). Has an Aqula tub and rebuilt engine. Should be interesting. Then I hear of all these comming up and all getting sold the same day.

As for sellers I had the same thing. Called a guy after a truck being for sale for 3 days. I am going to get it for a freind who wants to do a WVO conversion. I drive up and call the guy when I'm leaving. Let him know when I'm 90 minutes out and running early. I show up and I don't see the truck. I go knock on the door and it is open. The computer on and the chair on the floor like he got up in a hurry. I peak my head in and yell. Then I go outside and talk to a neighbor. He says some kid just drove off in it not 5 minutes before I got there. I went back to the guys house and continued to use every cuss word in the dictionary and for him to get his pansy ass out here so I can beat the s*** out of him. On the way out I purposefully backed my trailer over his mailbox and cracked it in half and then ran over the box itself crumpling it. I then signed up a bunch of porn trash and crap mail to be delivered to him. If I could have gotten away with backing the trailer up into his garage and crumpling it without getting in to much trouble I would have...Actually this was the day before OBX last year and I was pissed becuase I ran out of WVO on the way back home as I had wasted it driving up to that pansy's house.

I think you guys should keep things in perspective. At least those of you on the prowl have the capability of bringing one of these home the minute it pops up for sale.

Some of us can only look and dream.:crybaby:

Gawd I hope the real estate market picks up so we can get out of here and get a little space in an area that does not have HA nazis.

I usually don't have the time to just drop everything and drive to bumfuct and get a truck...but I do have this whole week off.

As for seeing them when they are posted, I wrote a handy little utility that will email me when a for sale thread is posted with a set of key words...doesn't work perfect and evertime but is easier and less time consuming than hitting the refresh button on craigshelper ever 15 minutes :hillbilly:.

Greg, it sounds like you got screwed. I bet someone showed up and offered him more than the price y'all decided on. He did the greedy thing and took the money.

Jon, you have nobody to blame for going to get the truck without even talking to the man first. That was a big chance you took, and it didn't work out for you.

I totally agree R.K and hope people didn't think I blamed my 'taking a chance' on the seller. I figured the worst thing that would happen is the truck got sold...but figured I had at least a fighting chance if I was close by sooner than later. All in all only 50 bucs in gas and 6 hours of my day wasted. On the other hand if luck would've been in my favor then I'd been driving home a steal of a deal...

My biggest complaint (and really only one) was lack of communication by the seller. I know I am not entitled to anything but I've sold a handful of cars and even if someone emails/calls me 2 weeks after it's sold then I still take the time to let them know it was sold and thank them for their interest...something about my conscious says it's the right thing to do...

WOW, somebody call the wambulance :D

not like you guys drove for 12 hours to find out the seller doesnt actually have a title in hand :flipoff2:

Just remember the thrill of the hunt is part of the experience.

then there is the third side of the argument where someone is selling something for a friend but wont pass out direct contact info.....
