Any .02 on these? On loan from a local antique dealer to see if it runs. The wife has wanted one for years and might be an option for Christmas.

I have no clue, but guess the bar involved takes the place of a foot pedal. PO installed what looks like a B&D power cord, Just want to get some idea how these work before it gets plugged in.

Couple more pics;

Sweet.

I used to have one like that but with the push plate at the bottom (not electric). Some hurricane back in the 90's claimed it though. I don't think they are worth that much because they made so many and people wanted to upgrade to the fancy stitch ones in the 80's, although they work great for what they are (I was at the top of my home-ec class in high school and I bagged 2 of the girls in that class that I was after, good times). I say go for it.

Send the serial number to singer and they will tell you the year place and model. I just bought a model 99K at a yard sale for 15$ and it works great. Tons of info on the net including owners manuals. What I've found so far is with few exceptions they are not very expensive so shop around!

That bar is a knee bar IIRC, lets you operate it by pushing against it.

As mentioned before, not worth much unless it's a handful of models. Some models were great, easy to change patterns, etc, some were a :censored:. A little Googling and you should be able to figure out which you have.

Thanks for the info, the dealer is asking $75 for it (and it does run).:cool:

Might just jump on it on that premise.

Hold on, you don't get off that easy! Sewing machine talk on Mud? Home Ec class? Bagged 2? Am I on the correct site?

it's a singer 99-13 and from the pics , it looks to be in good condition ( aside from the wiring job some hack has done on the cables) fwiw- the knee control is inserted into the hole in the front of the base wood . i'd say that 75$ is a "fair" deal what would move it into the "great" range would be if it came with a few attachments. since youre dealing with a repair shop- i'd at least ask to have the wiring corrected.

Splitty's repair shop, good reputation here, but on Mud, seems to be a shady character, just my .02..:D

99-13, thanks, may help with research.:cheers:

I grew up with one just like it (my mother sewed almost everything we wore), and it's still running and works fine (one of my sisters has it now). My wife liked it so much, she bought another just like it to teach our girls to sew on.

Check the wiring underneath,its soldered on. Good machine. MIke

Yes, this is a second machine. Nostalgia thing, she is into building old style quilts. It reminds me of being built like a cruiser, It'll probably get more use than the modern one.

Oh, and I bought it, talked them down to $50.:cool:
