I'd like to get an old electric winch for one of the 25's. The idea is to modify it with period early stuff. So I've got a short list so far:

Belleview
Hickey Sidewinder

I would do a PTO, only problem is a PTO box for a FJ25 is different, so if you know of one, speak up. :D

Or maybe a homebuilt based on a PTO? Seen any scary winch setups?

Just looking for ideas.

I would think the only period appropriate electric winch would be the Warn/Belleview....Was Hickey around in the late 50's???

There were a few PTO units that may? have been available. Koenig, Ramsey...?

Interesting old school project, thanks for sharing. Imagine wheeling in the late 50's? No hippies. :D

Yep, I was thinking the early 70's when truck was ten years old or so, plenty of hippies about :D . I think Koenig made an electric, that and the Ramsey were just the worm gear PTO models fitted with a motor.

As far as I know the only PTO available was the Toyota unit, that could be used with the Braden/Koenig/Ramsey/Toyota winch.

Looking into modifying a Chevy PTO box.

Hey Jim,

I'm not sure if he still has it or not but Dave, ex-pres. of YT, had a Sidewinder that worked. I'm sure he would part with it for a good price if you're interested in going that route.

Thanks for the tip Nick, the sidewinder may be too low profile for me though, it's all about looks here. :D

I've fooled around with a belleview quite a bit...

Made a hybrid motor for it so it had reversability and solenoid control vs the factory cable control...

Just as fast as an 8274, with a stronger case, but the cable-actuated manual brake makes them dangerous when doing hard pulls on inclines, etc.

I've got a belleview case+several motors+new OEM control cables I would be willing to part with...

PM me if you want some more information on my experience with Belleviews or my stuff that's for sale.
