Given all the extra weight I carry front and rear it is superior to the factory springs. I would like to see what the impact of removing the extra leafs has on ride height and how much it changes the handling characteristics.

Curious about that too. I'll be running a PTO winch at the front and have been debating which set to get for a while. I suppose I can't go wrong in getting a heavy set, can always remove a leaf if need be.
Post up your results if you ever try that.
Thanks :wrench:

How much lift were you hoping to achieve? Those are not OME's standard height FJ40 shackles in fact they are not OME shackles at all, I'm guessing MAF extended shackles right? If ~2.5" is/was your desired goal I would source a set of the shorter OME greasable shackles, they don't have the anti-inversion pin (triangle design) but they don't need it, they acheive the same inversion protection by adding a 'stopper' on the side of the shackle, its proven extremely effective for many years under hundreds of different trucks. If 3" and up was your goal, your on the right track.

You must have gotten the kit from MAF- Maybe??

I did the same exact lift as you did - resulted in the same exact set-up.

Your shackle angle will make the 40 ride like a crazy bull . . . not comfy, and you won't get much flex out of it.

I did the same lift, just took out 3 leaves out of each one...and softened it up, because it improved the shackle angle. You're at 90degrees, and it won't ride well that way. You can remove 2-3 leaves without loosing more than .25" of lift!

You can drive it that way....but it'll beat your kidneys to death, and your GF / Wifey won't appreciate your Cruiser-addiction any more now that you've done all this bad ass progress.

Take the 2 hours and remove some leaves....and you'll be super pleased!

Awesome 40 by the way!!

Jeff

Thanks for all the input and advice fellas. After getting out on level ground I am happy with the lift. Taller than I expected with but with 33's it should be fine. I'll see about the ride, it's for 16 year old so it is suppose to be uncomfortable so he has to focus on the road.

Thanks again!!
