I have one of those old bikes as well as my wife now...they are really fun to tinker with.

Mine has become my new DD (as long as the weather is good ;))

but if you need parts or information about these classic bikes here is some great resources for you:

English Three-speeds-Care and Feeding

as well as:
Bike Forums

just like a cruiser they will not let you down and always a blast to ride. :)

Talk about bringing back fond childhood memories! Good ole Raleigh three speeds were a blast to ride. Funny, I always remember stripping the gears and having to take the bike back for service afterwards.

I ride a 62-lb Marquis 3-speed to work everyday. I think it only weighs 45 pounds, but after I added the racks, it went up to 60+. The light in my dynamo died and I wasn't able to find a replacement 6v bulb. I had another 12v dynamo and was able to get it working but, this year it crapped out, so now it's just a decoration.

The racks are awesome. I can carry about 200 pounds of groceries on that thing.

Great post! I've got an old-ass Raleigh Sprite 5-speed that is my around the neighborhood ride and my wife has an old Raleigh 3-speed.

By the way, both from the dump that I tuned and updated.

Mine came from the local scrap yard. I had to give 0.25/lb for it. It just needed tubes/tires.
