I just bought the truck and an issue has come up. The previous owner said that he had re-packed the front hubs/wheel bearings. I am getting grease [think splatter paint art sets as a kid..] coming from the hubs.
Looks like I may have to re-pack them and get new seals eh?

What do you think?

Thanks

either way...

correct me if I'm wrong but...
It depends on what is actually coming out.
Is it grease? Is it slurry(grease/oil combo)? or is it grease and axle gear oil?

just grease...felts and outer seals
axle gear oil..inner seals too

have to find out what it is and what he used in the knuckle housings.
Sure its not brake fluid?

anyhoo, something to think about

Check the felts first

yes new seals and repack. might want to replace bearing if still original since you will be in there.

if the "grease" is coming out it has been thinned with oil.

Sounds like a knuckle job. Messy, time consuming, and worth doing.

I would replace the trunion bearings while you have it apart. Will really tighten up the steering. The instrcutions are here on the FAQ, but really helps to have the FSM

I'm looking a knuckle rebuild in the face too. I've got messy knuckles, and grease in the diff.

Butt
