Ive been thinking about this concept camper for sometime now. Tonite I decided to try out the photochop on my mac. I thought it would be neat to take the roof from a Eurovan MV with poptop and graf it into a pig. Sleeps two. If the back seats can be fitted then it would sleep at least 4 people. The first one with the top down looks kinda like crap... my first attempt at the software... the second one with the top up took me over an hour to get it to look decent.
I used Jims FJ55 as the test vehicle.

Kinda neat looking. I am trying to come up with a setup for my rig. I want to get some sort of roll up thing like they have in the bay areas of suv that I can install into the support where I chopped the roof and then pull out to attach and the end so I can sleep in the bed and be covered.

are the dimensions between the two actually that close tho? does look cool

"Brian,I will start on your 73 right away. ;p "

On the dimensions... they are very close. The fiberglass top would need some shortening but it would look like Westfalia installed it as they have on rovers, mercedes, etc... What would be the best thing to do is cut the roof section out of the donor eurovan MV poptop. Then build up the A, B, C, and D pillars for added strength. Then weld the roof onto the 55. The Eurovan is very strong in a rollover. Then all need be done is cut the fiberglass, shorten to fit and reglass the areas needing it.

I havent looked at the seats yet so I dont know if they would work. I did measure the Eurovan MV's top and it was very close. But the rear seats fold down into a bed.
Check out this guys MV for a good source of photos.. just click on the photo and it will make it bigger.

Why not just buy a Rooftop Tent like a Maggiolina or a Columbus? A lot less work and they are probably built more substantially than anything you could pull off a van. You have less head room in a 55 and you'll likely lose a lot of it trying to fit a pop top into the original roof. I'm sold on the Maggiolina for my 60, just need to finish the mechanical repairs before I start dumping $$ into extras...
