OK - Cruiser (CA 74 FJ40) running fine. Stop for 1/2 hour and only run with full choke - stalls at idle -- Here is what I have replaced since: Fuel tank (different story - had a hole) All fuel lines - fuel filters (run2) - pump is working OK (fills carb bowls fine) and placed rebuilt carb on intake - so tank to intake is all new - checked carb soleniod and it works fine. Still only runs with full choke and then it is dicey. What else is left? Vaccuum? If so - where? Intake / Piston / where? Any ideas on what to check?

I would check for leaks around the newly installed carb. Get a can of starter fluid or an unlit propane torch to check for an increase in idle.

Is your rig desmogged? You may want to get a vacuum gauge and see if what your pulling at idle, problem is that if is running so poorly right now, you may not get a good diagnostic reading. Check all vacuum related hoses.. Is the carb new? If not you may have a problem with the accelerator pump. Also check the float for problems. Im willing to bet its vacuum or carb related.

I am not sure on the earily models, but I had an 81 do the same thing. I found that the EGR valve was stuck open and recirculating exhaut gas all of the time. I took the hose off the top of the EGR and blew into it. I heard the valve release, the Cruiser then would idle without a problem. I hope this helps.
