My washer motor makes a horrid whirring noise when it first starts when the wipers are on the downward stroke. It stops after about 10 minutes. Is there a specific way to oil or lube the gears?

There are a couple of cover plates (with gaskets) that you remove, clean out all the 45 year old hard grease and re-lube. I used the covers as templates to make new gaskets.

It is the wiper motor you're talking about?

Forgot the cable.....you can oil the cable using a heat gun to draw the oil down into the sheath.

I've got the same situation, cleaning out my wiper motors, but what kind of gear lube should I use? The lube that came in them seems pretty heavy so I'm assuming its not your run-of-the-mill waterproof grease.
Hijack over. EDIT: My motors are from a 66. Will there be a difference between the gear lubes for his 73 and my 66? Or are they similar enough...?

thanks ed!
