Oil residue on Transfer case, crossmember and skid plate

For input/output shaft seals either nose cone needs to be removed. And a press is needed after that along with a couple press tools.

I'd gladly hand over a c-note to have someone do that job! Its not difficult, mind you, and I've now done both...but for a hundred bucks...;)

Yep, looking at the FSM the front and rear output shafts are held in by c-clips inside the case. That sucks.

Could someone post the link to the FSM. I've heard this mentioned before but I cannot find it.

What would cause there to be a light oil residue on the, crossmember and skid plate?

As a lot of you know, I'm in the market for a replacement 100. One that I looked at tonight seemed decent. The only strange thing underneath was an oil residue on the transfer case, skid plate and cross member. What would cause this? Easy fix or keep looking?

This would bug me personally...I would keep looking.

Have you tried an 03+ with the 5-speed? When testing the different years I felt the transmission upgrade in 03 really improved the 100 series package.

I agree but my wife doesn't see the merit in having a $15-20k over landing truck that were going to scratch up
