one of my summer projects will be to replace the oil pan gasket, but I'm thinking that while I'm in there I'd like to drop the oil pump too. SOR has a rebuild kit that replaces all of the gears and guts for about $80. A new unit costs about $180. Seems to me the rebuild kit covers all of the moving parts and should be fine - this one has lasted 205k, right? Why not stick with it, for the most part?
I guess here's my question - is it a PITA to rebuild? It looks simple enough, but if it's more than a one hour job, I may not want to mess with it. (I'm on the heels of a non-auto related project that took way more effort and time to do - and I should have sent it off and paid the $170 to have it done: replacing the LCD in our Titanium Powerbook. Seems simple enough, right? It's terrible!)
