I tried searching but could not find anything on this, and I hope you all can help. Noticed some oil on the intake hose and am curious if it is an issue and, if so, what might be the cause. I also noticed that the valve cover on the DS is starting to leak a little. I already tightened those bolts up, hoping that will stop any leaks but will replace the gasket if needed. Coincidence or related?

Thanks all

That's the bottom side right? The DS valve leak wouldn't have made it's way all the way over there. What's happening down below, maybe power steering fluid flinging up there? What about throttle body, is it wet in there?

I'm not convinced that's even fluid yet, if you wipe it does it feel greasy? It looks like you have your grill off as well, what are you getting into?

Clean it all up, top off fluids, install it and monitor it to see where it all starts. There isn't fluid inside the air box so either fluid from something else is getting on there or idk wtf you have going on yet. Post more pics of engine bay in that area

I searched and found this. I sincerely hope this is not your problem.

That seems like a pretty rare situation, but easy to tell if there is oil in there by disconnecting the intake pipe. Even if there is, the PCV failure seems like a more likely culprit. If it was more scattered I would suspect PS, trans cooler, etc leak getting blown around by the fan, but this seems too localized for that scenario to be likely.

Thank you for the replies. Luckily there is no oil inside. Unfortunately, a fine layer of desert dust is in there even after replacing the air filter often... I recently replaced the PS supply and return hoses since they were weeping. I would have thought there would be oil on the hood insulation if it were hitting the fan, and maybe there is, but it seems localized to the intake hose. I will have to inspect it further this weekend and see if I can identify it.

I would love to hear any other thoughts and post what I find. Thanks again for all the help.

Anyone else running into that specific issue would be very rare in my opinion.

The possible causes for oil in the air pipe that I found in my research were:
  1. Faulty power steering idle up control valve.
  2. Blocked PCV.
  3. Damaged piston rings
For oil or some other fluid to get to that part of the air pipe inside would require the rest of the pipe to be pretty full. Upon removal you would feel/hear fluid inside it and have fluid coming out of the other vacuum ports. In my opinion that looks localized to something that got spun off the fan and flung up onto the air pipe. I would check below and see if there are the same wet marks around the fan.

>> I'm pretty sure these lines would push PS fluid back into the intake manifold and most likely burn it up. If not it would be seen at throttle body maybe and/or the PS fluid would be low

I think it's safe to say if both ends of the intake tube is dry and the fluid is only at that one spot then it's most likely something splashing from down below?

Let's see what the belt components are looking like, are they all dry? Maybe just clean it all up, put it back together and monitor it. I just hit my intake with a little steam cleaner and it looks new again.
