I'm getting annoyed at my oil light. It keeps lighting up when I accelarate and turns off when I brake slightly. Everytime I check the oil dipstick it is full. What gives?

I noticed this happening after my last oil change. I've been using Mobil1 syn since I bought the truck. That was about a year ago.

Anyone experiencing this at the moment? As always thanks for the help.

add some oil.

Serious, not trying to be a smart-ass, but for some reason the oil level sensors on these things are very sensitive. For example, the book calls for 7.6 quarts IIRC, my oil light would come on intermittantly after an oil change. So i started adding 8 quarts and it has never come on since, except after about 4,000 miles, so i add another quart and it's good for another 4,000 miles until i change the oil at 10,000 miles.

Hope that helps.

Mine seems to do it very occasionally... a couple times a year. Mine lights after I start it up in the morning, typically after running for about about 20-30 secs. As I warm up, the oil light will come on and stay lit for 5-10 seconds, then turn itself off. The first couple of times I was concerned... looked at pressure guage... at the top mark. Shut down and check oil... plenty of oil on the dipstick. Now I just think that it's the truck messing with my head trying to keep me on my toes...

I'll add more oil for now just because it is still raining here.

betcha it's just low on oil...

Yep, they're pretty sensitive. I also do the 8 quart fill and mine never comes on between my 7500 mile changes.

I'm glad to hear they are just sensitive. Mine came on about 2500 miles after an oil change. I change my oil every 3000, so I just ran it in a little early for a change because I didn't know what was going on. I'll be sure to put a full 8 qts in from now on.

Fill 'er up with 8 qts for sure.

This is the FIRST vehicle I've ever dealt with that, per the owners manual, you are supposed to check the oil warm. I've always checked cold. Man, was that a cold chill when I saw oil INCHES up the dipstick the morning after that first change.

This last oil change a couple weeks ago, drizzled around 7.75 qts of Mobil 1 into that gem. Checked cold the next morning, high on the dipstick. At the all-too-frequent stop at the gas station, dead nuts on the full mark.

No sh!t!! But what I have found is that if I make sure to seat the dipstick solidly in the tube I don't wake up to the "2 inches over full" reading.
