Oil Light Keeps Coming On

Hey gummy carbs. I’m here to learn. Why the Diesel engine oil? Better for a leaky engine like mine?

Diesel oil has more detergents than regular car oil, which is why I mentioned it, since I've got a fair amount of sludge.

Diesel oils have higher zinc levels (not nearly as high as they used to be), which is said to be helpful for "flat tappet" engines like Jeep inline sixes. I'm not aware of any particular benefit for our engines, though.

I've been running Shell Rotella T6 5-W40 in all my engines for around a decade. Motorcycles included. It's just a good value, with a good viscosity range.

At or near the top of the mark isn't good enough. It's nearly a 9 quart reservoir, one quart low barely shows on the dipstick. The sensor is much more sensitive, and one quart low will cause it to light the lamp. Add some oil, see what happens. That is almost always the issue. The good thing is, one quart low isn't going to hurt your engine. Overfilling it within reason won't hurt either, I dump 9 quarts in at every oil change, and the stick doesn't even register the 'extra'. Keeps the light off longer that way.

I added a little over half a quart and it’s a little above the fill line after checking at a gas station and giving it a few minutes to chill at the pump. I’m still getting the light.

Any other ways to remediate? I understand the sensor gets stuck sometimes? Many thanks.

I ran a whole bottle of seafoam when I got mine. ran it until it reached operating temp then let it sit for a week before an oil change. ive never had a light but that's not saying much...
