I recently replaced my oil pan gasket, (3FE) a few times and can't stop the leak at the front of the pan. I then replaced the oil pan because a few of the edges were boogered up, new gasket, still leaking at the front. I had previously replaced the timing gear cover gaskets and don't think that they're leaking anymore. I don't think it's the front main seal either. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you using a one piece or 3 piece gasket?

Also, when you tighten the bolts down, are you using the pattern provided in the FSM? You have to tighten it the way you would your head or lugs on a wheel - I think you start in the center and work your way out, IIRC.

5 new oil pan gaskets = what toyota charges to replace it.

Ever thought about having Toyota fix it, then if it leask again, you can go back and make them fix it on their dime.

sounds like it's time for you to put a tracing solution in your oil and track the exact source of your leak with a black light. it will take the guess work out of your guessing :)

dogboy,
Do you have more information on this magic solution of which you speak. I would like to use it to find all the areas that my transfer case is leaking from.

Are you 100% sure that you used the correct lenght bolts in the correct holes when you did the timing gear cover plate? They are not all the same. If you put a mid lenght one into a short hole it is easy to miss but it will cause the cam gear cover plate to open against the block and allow an oil leak that looks for all the world like an oil pan leak. The oil will actually come out on the ft lip of the pan.

Yeah, I thought about the dealership, I was trying to not give up the fight. Enough of that though, it's costing too much time and money. I will get back into it and check the timing cover. Thanks

double check the bolts...my bolts where loose and after i gave em a good ol swearing as i tightened them...no more leak
