Hello everyone,

My question is what oil filter do you all use for 4.7? I know OEM is good and have had some of my Toyota friends tell me to go with them but I have other people tell me Mobil or WIX XP is good too. Just looking for your opinion on what brand I should go with!

Also while we are at it what is everyone's oil change interval? I used to do every 5k on my other vehicles but thinking of doing every 3k or so on my GX.

5k is the recommended interval for the GX. The oil is still pretty clean at 5k. Changing more frequently than 5k miles is probably a waste of oil and time.

What oil filter do you use?

Whatever the oil changer uses. I honestly never even looked at the oil filter. I know it's clean when I check the oil.

I use OEMs I buy on Amazon. 5w30 redline in this rotation. I did Amazon 5w30 last rotation. Royal Purple 5w30 the previous. I have oil analysis being done on each so I can compare them.

On the 80's forum WIX filters are the probable cause of multiple engine failures. The NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX so strike those off the list as well.

That's kinda crazy to me. I'm new to Lexus/Toyota but, WIX is an OEM supplier for BMW and everyone loves them.

I was a firm believer in WIX filters for years after seeing multiple comparisons. The failures posted in the 80's section is where the drain back valves either failed or were assembled wrong blocking flow and loss of oil pressure. In one case the filter was examined by the WIX lab and denied responsibility for the obvious problem so they didn't have to payout a claim for rebuilding or replacing an engine. That poor customer service in itself is reason to move to another brand. I've since read other articles implying WIX has moved some of their production offshore using cheaper components. Maybe for OEM supplied filters they have not changed due to more stringent contract requirements but that doesn't mean they are the same as those supplied to the retail market.

I currently have 208k miles on my '05 GX

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage 5w/30 oil with a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter.

I change the oil myself every 7-8k miles (about half what Mobil 1 recommends for its extended performance oil aka 15k miles) or twice a year.

I have no oil consumption issues, I still get 16 mpg on larger tires, and power levels are still very strong and feels unchanged since we got it with 40k miles. The truck also passes California emissions like it was new. It's worked for this long, I don't plan on changing it.

I use Mobile 1 and change every 5k. I have done this with all of my vehicles since the late 90's and had fantastic results. The 5k interval makes it easy to remember since I have several vehicles :) I use Denso filters on the Lexus'

I am a long time WIX/NAPA gold guy as well but after reading that thread it seems something has changed with them. Here is a link.

Everything in my stable uses Mobil1. Buy bulk OEM filters for the GX/Tacoma and run the same on each even though the Tacoma original is smaller for the 3rz. The GX filter will spin up and seat just fine.

I only use Toyota OEM filters I purchase from my Lexus dealer. Too many fake ones on Amazon and eBay.
I am currently using High Mileage Full Synthetic Supertech 5w-30 and 10w-30. I change my oil every 3k because
I love to do it.

I would have stayed with Schaeffers but the price difference is just too great.

210k miles, 5k oci 5w20 Pennzoil ultra. Works well. I use the fram ultra filter for 10k (good for 20k apparently)
