Oil filter size?

Cary,

I'm using Mobil 1 0W40 as recommended to me. Last change was maybe 2500 miles ago and done just before CM07 so less than 3 months ago. Will be changing the oil in the next few weeks despite many stating with synthetics you can go longer. My aftermarket warranty requires that I follow the 3 month/3000 mile rule so no biggie.

What is wierd is that I've owned the rig since last November and have never heard it make this noise before. First time I heard it was about 10 days ago on startup at a house up in Grand Lake CO (~8500') while on vacation. Seems wierd that I'm hearing it now

I'm guessing it is something else besides startup rattle. Given your intervals, I would suggest you consider going to the Rotella or Chevron Delo 15w-40 summer, and 5w-30 in the winter. There is no point running a synthetic for the short intervals, you are just spending unnecessary money.

Ok went with the Wix filter. Thanks guys.
Noticed how I didn't spill half a quart on the ground as I removed the filter, unlike my 94', nice.:)

Motorcraft FL1A here. Cheap, good, and big. Easy to remove and replace. Also, the Motorcraft filters have done very well in tests and tear downs.

Mobil 1 filter, check previous discussions. Big, fat, top rated, and built like a tank.

Do not use a Fram!

I already use Mobil One 10W30 on just about everything I own, since Fram reputation been destroyed here, how about Mobil One fiters? Or how about K&N oil filters?

It's proper etiquette to at least read a thread before posting in it. :D

Cary's one of our gurus for all things lubed and filtered; go back and read post #12.

I can't believe after reading this thread that I didn't see the reference-

"Orange Can of Death"

That always cracks me up :flipoff2:

You know, right, that you're preaching etiquette to a guy using 20 point neon green crayon fonts, right?

Just checking. ;)

Both K&N and M1 oil filters are made by champion labs, both good filters, but both are quite pricey, more so than OEM filters, I woudl not consider either good value (cost for what you get) if you want a parts store filter as Cary said look at Wix either directly wix branded or as the Napa Gold brand. good filter reasonable price.

20 years ago Fram was a good filter, they have since prostituted their good name.

I run the small OEM filters 90915-20004

the Walmart supertech filters used to be a great bang for buck filter though last I heard they have gone to a new "e-tech" design, look inside, see black plastic frame, instead of perforated steel tube = not a good filter,

Ranking an OEM, K&N and a Wix/Napa Gold, what would the order be?

And on a scale from 1 to 10, where would each rate?

I changed my oil today, using Castrol 10w-30, and a K&N filter.

Switching to synthetic once I get mo money.

Gulp. Almost every filter I put in mine has been Fram. I just didn't know any better. Never again. Oh well, this engine is young so its a good thing I learned now.

1515 is the Napa Gold P.N. for the large case, otherwise the default small case is a 1348.

Like others have stated, OEM is my favorite too, but when I forget & run out of C-Dan supplied ones (local stealership rapes me) I don't feel remotely guilty running to Napa for a 1515.

Sorry about the oil issue, I did read post # 12. For the font, I can't see very well, if you want to make fun of it, fine.
Last time I used one of those Wal-mart filters I ended up re-building an engine, and to this date, Fram have not failed me, however, I will try next time K&N oil filters

You can increase the size of all the text in your browser without just increasing the font you are writing in. In firefox, hit control + , IE pull down the page menu on the right and select a larger text size. You're not the only person in the world with poor eyesite.

Sigh... At the risk of being an ass (a continual possibility).

As Cary noted, the font you view in and the font you write to the rest of us in do not need to be linked. The viewing font size is adjustable in the browser and the font size windows uses for everything are both independently adjustable.

Using giant green fonts within the post (written not viewed) winds up being the equivalent of running around wearing nothing but bright green tights yelling in a falcetto voice, 'look at me now!' Regardless of your reasons for doing it, the interpretation stays the same.

Net nanny done.

Call Dan at American Toyota in New Mexico and order a dozen Toyota filters. I find it easier to have them on the shelf next to the oil.

I was curious about Fram's "Tough Guard" filters. They're supposedly a lot better. According to the box.

Yay? Nay?

I don't have access to Toyota filters when I'm changing my oil.
