Anyone experience this? I have recently replaced PCV valve, grommet and replaced hose with the braided cloth hose from $OR. I have checked and rechecked that the valve is in properly. My oil level is always kept at the full mark on the dipstick or just below. Problem is...oil is oozing out between grommet and valve, and is also making its way through the valve; just enough that the cloth hose is soaked in oil just above the valve. Enough oil is coming out, that it is dripping down the curved PCV valve attachment tube. What is this...any suggestions? Should there be this much pressure coming up through the hose? This is just annoying enough to make me wonder.

TIA-

Your rings maybe on their way out. It sounds as if you are getting excessive crankcase pressure (blow by). When I have seen taht in the past it was allway a ring issue.

Thanks Dynosoar, you think I would see other signs i.e. smoke, lack of power, etc. all of which I'm not experiencing. I recently did a compression check, which was at 165-170 in all cylinders. I hope this is not the problem...anyone confirm this?

TIA-

Make sure that the other end of the pvc valve hose is firmly clamped. I had this same problem until I properly clamped (I thought it was) the other end of the hose where it connects to the intake. Voila! suddenly no more leaking from the pvc valve!! I will credit this one to Rob Blumel.

i have the same thing going on. not shooting out but oily all over the valve and hose. i assumed the grommet was old since i didn't replace it. i would be surprised if it was something serious, then i would cry.

Thanks....I'll try that! Do you know why this would cause it to leak?

PCV. positive crankcase ventilation. The poorly clamped hose didn't create sufficient vacuum to remove the oily vapors that build up to be burned in combustion and the oil collected. It'll do it with a new pvc valve and a new grommet. Just insufficient vacuum.

Thanks Blue...sounds promising! I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I get oil through my PVC on my 3FE. The #5 cylinder leakdown is 20% (all others are under 5%). Compression is excellent on all cylinders including #5. No blue smoke or oil consumption to speak of and you'd never know it to drive the truck. This was probably the result of an iffy rebuild 5 or 6 years ago which I didn't find until a couple of years ago.

Consider getting a leakdown test. If your leakdown numbers are OK check if your valve cover is full of gunk in the baffling (you can't remove the baffling without cutting out the spot welds but if the vents at the bottom look like they full you might consider getting it cleaned, maybe a "warm" tank for aluminum at a machine shop?).

I'm currently using a Steeda oil separator http://www.steeda.com/store/-catalog/555-3710.htm to catch this oil and keep it out of the intake. You could probably make something cheaper from Home Depot parts but this was convient.
