The oil pressure guage in my 1970 (early 1972 F engine) always reads right under the 1/4 mark. One thing that I am not sure of is whether the guage works, because my fuel guage reads 3/4 with drops left in the tank. I am confident in my temp guage however, because it starts out cold and then warms up to a little under the 1/2 mark, and varies with the temp outside.

I am planning on changing the oil when I change the air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and oil filter.

I have read many threads on how to change oil (puncture top of old oil filter after draining and then remove?) but with my parts order I got a toyota service manual for chassis and body, not engine

Anyone have a tried and true method for changing oil in the early F? I will also need to know how much oil will be going back in, as I dont have the manual. The previous owner supplied me with an oil filter.. NAPA (NASCAR select?) 91515. After all of the opinions I think the oil I might go with is castrol GTX 10W-40 for CT, year round (but garaged) weather.

Thanks

1) Drain old oil.
2) Change filter.
3) Put oil drain plug back in.
4) Refill with appropriate (7.5-8 quarts w/ large filter iirc) amount of oil.
