I'm looking to use an aftermarket display\pump switch for an aux tank and need to know the Ohms. The tank is mounted with no access but I know it has a factory 73 Series sending unit.

This will save me from dismounting an aux tank. Thanks in advance. I suppose in maintenance manuals, but could not find one online.

What I find shows full to be 3 ohms, 1/2 to be 32.5 ohms and empty to be 110 ohms.

Thanks Cruiser Dan- so would the factory 75 series sender have the same ohms by chance? As it turns out the one one on the tank from a 73 is dead and was put on to just plug the hole. - So I can order any sender so long as close to correct length.

The manual I have simply says 70 Series. It does not breakout variants so presumably the resistance values are the same. This is a service manual, not a parts catalog, so I do not have a method to determine physical fitment. In other words they tell the same electrical story but may still be vehicle-specific due to tank shape and mounting location.

Those tanks where intended to replace the 90 liter hzj76 tank so that sender would be the right one but those are 12volt, maybe try a sender from a hzj77

Ok. Thanks Joe. Per online search- Hzj7x - this looks like the one to get.

Interesting. Now I need for 24v.

The sender is a variable resistor. I doesn't care if it is 12 or 24v.

Yes- but the resistance is dependent on voltage - the gauge in dash as well. Ohms Law. R= Current/Voltage

Then it is a mystery to me why the 24 volt and 12 volt BJ74s use the same part numbered tank sender.:hmm: The JDM 12v FJ62s and 24v HJ60s use a common sender as well.

Maybe matched with a different part number gauge? Ohms delivered should be different to the gauge is 12v vs 24v.

I mean- maybe there is something I’m missing. You guys are the experts on parts for sure. Just have not dig deep into this.

The gauges are indeed different part numbers. My take is the sender is the same for either voltage and the gauge is calibrated differently.
