1979 Fj40

OK gang, I've finally gotten it ready. I went and got my inspection done today. Had a scare though when an officer from the DMV came in to check on the shop while it was getting done. Here it is. It done enough to hit the road, but lets be honest....they are never really ever done.

ok guys. Here is the before shot. The only thing you can't see from this pics is how bad the roll cage was bent.

And your right, we still have a way to go, but now we can start to enjoy it some too while we continue to work. All I want to know is, what was Toyota thinking with all those vacuum hoses.....Sheesh I replaced almost 6 ft of them and it looks like I've barely done a thing. I am so glad I have the 2F emissions manual as well or I would be lost.

Man, That is not bad at all. I have rolled a vehicle alot worse than that and fix it right back up in no time. After Haiti that was. And it was a Heep. Rolled that sucker 3 different times, after the last one it had to go. It had a 401 under the hood.

Yeah with a 401 I bet you could really get that thing moving. We took it out last night and it topeed out at about 55 and it took a while to get it there.

cruiser history

Erymer...so what is this rigs history??? I mean I am interested in knowing how you found it, how was it rolled...etc..etc

Hey Juan,
I actually found it on Mud....There was a guy in Clemmons (Steve)who had it since the 80's. He bought it from Joe Turpin (JT Outfitters) before he started JTO. I was looking for something under 5k and I ended up getting this for 2200. With some help from a local cruiser parts warehouse AKA (RK), I was able to get the hood windhields frame and another set of fenders and aprons.

One of Steve's sons was driving it one day and had to lock up the brakes. when he did, it rolled....they flipped it back over and drove it home. The son was then given a volvo station wagon to drive. It was kind of funny though, each time we went to look at it, one of his sons tried to talk us out of it. I guess they were hoping that Steve would not sell it. From what I can tell from the paperwork, it has always been an NC cruiser.

Erymer, great story....One thing I enjoy about cruisers is hearing the stories on how people got them...It is something about each cruiser's pasts that just gets me excited...

Cool rigs K_os !!! where were those pictures taken at?

I know what you mean Juan. Half the fun of owning one is learning where it's been.

here is my latest pic of my FJ

Did you have Trent do some work on that Cruiser in Raleigh a couple of years ago? It looks like one he was working on before he moved away from Raleigh.

No I have done everything to this but the rhinoliner. It is orange but looks red in the photos
