Truck SOLD this evening to a very nice local family.

2007 GX470-Green River Rock
180K Miles
Good Michelins
Timing Belt and Water Pump performed recently
New Battery and Alternator
New Front and Rear Brakes (rear within last 3K Miles, front within last 12K)
Recently added rear hitch
3rd Row Seats
Bluetooth/NAV/Rear DVD
Mark Levinson

There are a few small dings but overall it is in good shape.

I think a fair price is $11,000 OBO. I don't have room for it so I will give it a few days then run it by CarMax if there is no interest.

Give me a call if you have any interest, great safe car for high school kid or college kid. Not a bad truck to build for the trails either.

As Jason mentioned above, the new Metal Tech offering would like nice on the front of this thing...just saying.

Truggy SOLD and GONE!!! I got another bay back

hey @little_joe , any idea of better or worse years of the gx470s? Looks like they could be poverty pack (non nav units) until 2004, maybe 2005? I've been doin some nosing around, comparing them to a 100 series... Feel free to pm me some pros and cons, or what years are better than other years. Id prefer to stay 470 instead of the 460 (which would be the slightly porkier sister, right?)

@stevezero overall, the run from 2003-2009 was virtually the same:
  • 2004 saw the intro of the sealed transmission (no dipstick). Toyota/Lexus claims it uses a lifetime fluid, but it has to be changed regardless and costs $175-+$300.
  • 2005 added VVTi, which resulted in a power bump + addition of some accessory smog components which can fail, but are easily (and inexpensively) bypassed.
When I shopped, my only real criteria was 05 or newer for the VVTi + power bump; previous owner history (mine was meticulously maintained at Lexus, no accidents).

Other than that, all years use the same xfer case, f&r ring and pinion/diffs, chassis, interior, etc. Lexus recommends premium for the VVTi, but I run regular and mid and notice no difference (I have a log of every fillup since I bought the GX).

There is no poverty pack. Nav + Mark Levinson audio was an optional package throughout the run: some people say avoid it at all costs b/c the audio and HVAC are all integrated so there is currently no way to install an aftermarket stereo, and the nav is a bit dated. I have this option, and I'm quite happy with it - audio is very good, and the nav gets me where I need to go, I use my phone for detailed nav. I acknowledge those who feel a need for a hooptie stereo system should avoid this option. You can add a GROM or SAIS (?) adapter to get better Bluetooth support and additional USB-based audio with the ML/Nav option.

Somewhere early in the run, there was an addition of rear AC - no rear heat a la 80 Series, just AC. I have heard differing stories on when the 2nd row DVD became available; I have it, don't use it, my dog isn't into movies.

The other big option is the Sport package, which adds KDSS (hydraulic swaybars), dark wood interior trim, and "smoked" accents to the headlights. KDSS is alleged to be a very nice and useful option but 1) it does limit some aftermarket options (namely sliders, since the hydraulics run along the frame rail) and 2) is another thing that can go wrong. I have not driven a KDSS GX or 4R.

The single biggest problem area is the rear air suspension. It will go bad, period. New airbags + other bits can be cobbled together; MetalTech makes an inexpensive kit to install rear coils, which solves the problem for good. Even though mine wasn't bad, I removed the mushy electronically controlled shocks, sagged front springs, and rear airbags and went with a more conventional suspension.

When looking at suspensions, if a part is marketed for 03-09 4R or FJC (all are the 120 platform), it will work on the GX. The GX is also mechanically identical to the 03-09 V8 4R, just the body and interior are different.

And you are right, 2010 saw the intro of the GX460, which is a very different vehicle based on the 150 Series.

I am posting this here vs PM in case anyone else has corrections/clarifications. Let me know if you have other questions.

That is an incredibly detailed breakdown. Although I'm not in the market I learned a lot. Thanks for taking the time!

That is a real solid deal! Makes me want another one. Wife and I have always said our 2003 GX was our favorite vehicle of all time :) In fact, we wished we still had it vs one of the Priui, but then I probably couldn't have got the 4runner :(

I like your pink shoes, too!!

Anyone looking for a manual taco? This popped on the next door classifieds and then I found it on craigs. Price seems a bit high for the mileage.
