My Koni 90 raid friends,
I found a clearance issue with the shocks.
Here are a few pics. Anyone installing the Konis should simply grind a little more clearance behind the shock shaft. You'll see from the first two pics that my shock was touching the LCA.
And of course after grinding give it a healthy cost of rust oleum.

Messing around with rebound settings while Brian Jowett is working on a rear Bilstein solution to match the 6112 front setup and I wait for the OME 7221 from Slee.

Front now 180 degrees off minimum setting
Rear is up to 720 degrees to try and settle the rear vibration.
It's good but I wonder what everyone else is running with the Konis.
Brian has always recommended 25% so I assume this means 360 degrees or one full turn since there are 4 turns of adjustment.

I have been keeping an eye on the Koni 90 and i'm now focused on a 1.5 to 2" lift in the front similar to TRD 2016 Land Cruiser.

But seems there is no spring available for the Koni 90.

Anybody know if I can run Koni 88 series with ARB 1.5" spring or King 2" spring?

Currently the set up i have in my mind, running B 5100's with ARB springs up front to get me better shocks than stock and lift the nose of the truck.

now i'm probably leaning towards Bilstein 6112/5160 similar to the Tundra TRD Pro..

Brian can actually modify the 90s if you want a raise while retaining the stock front springs. (Increase preload) Or you can use the OEM spacer like I did with these. If he doesn't have any left of have one set that I used a short time.

Hi Arich,
I have unti now OME shocks and springs. Is it possible to modify the Koni 90 that they will fit?
The OME have extended 70 cm. I have seen Koni has extended only 60 cm? Is this correct? In case yes, I would guess the Koni are to short for the OME springs.

Thomas

I'm looking at the same thing. I have a TJM with 12k winch up front though.

I settled on the ARB OME BP51s BUT I kept my Koni 90s because I think with the right spring they are the best shock for the money.
The OEM spring will fit but they are too soft. In the future I hope to look into a front spring so I can use these as a spare pair if the BP51s ever have to go in for service or I pick up a new LC and want to give the 11 to the kids.
Brian Jowett is the most knowledgeable person on the board with the Konis. PM him with questions.

I am about to order Koni 90/King 130 HD combo. What do you think?
How are the BP51? I wanted to order them some months ago. But you have to send them to US to service them (Fox or King you could do at your own)

Sorry if this is inappropriate but since this is the official Koni thread I thought I'd ask....

Would you guys buy from this ebay vendor?

Koni Shock Absorber Heavy Track Red Rear axle 2x 88-1748 | eBay

Well his shipping to where I reside is incredibly cheap but on the other hand he lists the compatible vehicles for the part as a 150 series...so any thoughts?
Is this the right model number for the 200. At that price it seems like just the rear shocks.

Yes it's the right model according to Koni's official site, and the info from searches on this forum. But the seller lists it as compatible for the Prado only. It's only the rear, the prices are similar to what I find elsewhere, it's the low shipping charges that's making me take a serious look at it.

Worth taking a gamble on this?

Yep that looks like the right Shock the rear of the 200.
Now see if you can source the fronts and find a spring.
I think the Dobinsons will work.

I have Koni Raid 90’s and Kings comfort springs on a stock 200-series.

Every little bump on the road is felt especially in the rear.

is the 360° for the fronts and 720° for the rear good?

The Koni dealer at my country has no clue on how to tune his own shocks. He just installed it straight out of the box (I assume in the lowest setting). The ride of the stock 200 series is bad.

I haven’t been on this thread in a while. I got rid of the BP51s and went back to the Konis with King “lowering” springs with front spacers thinking I’d get stock height. It’s a touch lower than stock.
I went with 360 (one turn) front and rear. It’s very good. The rears are so easy to take out and adjust that you can play with those. One turn in the front is fine.
Very good on the Highway. Probably too low and soft to do serious off roading. If that we’re the purpose I’d go with heavier and the normal height springs. The truck is very comfortable now. One more thing, I have C rated BFG KO2s not E rated. Softer and a little lighter.

I assume the lowering springs from Kings are for stock weight. Correct?

I will try the 360° both from and rear and see if the bouncing and harsh ride will be controlled.

I really thought the E-rated tires that I put on the truck were the cause of all this but what triggered my search for Koni shock tuning was my other truck.

I got new E-rated tires for it as well. I was expecting it for the ride to get worse but no. It improved a bit going from passenger tire to E-rates tires. I thought I was going crazy. Even the wife noticed the better ride. (All stock FJ Cruiser with new STT Pro tires.)

Hence, I’m here. 😅
