Has anyone mounted off road lights on the factory rack? I want the lights, but don't need the cargo capacity of a aftermarket rack.

Is there something that is easy and very stable (low vibration/shaking).

Thanks!

Just need to be sure the threaded stud on whatever light you are going to use is long enough or you'll need to be creative ;).

I would ditch the rack altogether and just use a single African Outback crossbar on the forward mounting point for your lights. Or a custom light bar using the forward mounting points.

Thule bars are nice because they are rectangular, making for a fairly stable mounting surface, and definitely strong and stiff.

I second the AO rack... though I have yet to fab some mounts for mine. :o

mac, dog is saying just to get a crossbar, not get the whole rack :)

the mounting seems easier, but what would the best way to route the wiring for high power lights be?

thanks Guys. Let me see what I can dig up. Wiring isn't my specialty but I might be able to get some good stuff done.

Appreciate the help!

hey soberman i have been trying to work on this for my truck also but i have been slow about it the roof rack is still the best because you can have rear lights also but here is the stuff i have come across so far now the reason i was lokking at this type is that it can bee folded down for more clearance i have to park in a parking garage for work and i dont have to much room but i dont like the whole square thing i wanted the lights to be free standing like a light bar this may sound stupid but what i was actually gonna try is using one of the many from bumper type bars out there and attach it to thefactory roof rack between the 2 front section but the lights might be to low and then you get glare on the windshield?

here is a pic of what i was thinking with the bumper thing but not sure about the vibration thing up there there are nicer ones out there; this is the only pic i had on file

there is a guy from the 80 series section that builds stuff but he did not want to get into making a 1 off maybe if we get a group he might change his mind but this is the fold down thing i was talking about
