Anyone know the story on these? I assume they were only available outside the USA. What years? Can a US 80 be retro-fitted with one. Any sources? I have only seen 2 pictures.

Can't reply to what we can't see.

That particular bumper does not actually fit the winch, it simply has a hole in it for the fairlead.

here you go

Thanks for the photos. I have never seen this option before. I wonder why Mr. T chose to not give the US models all of the cool stuff. At least as a special order option.

You can bet its DOT-related. Same reason we didn't get a rear cargo light....they probably figured it impaired night-time rear view mirror visability. And they nixed the CDL switch because it allows you to disengage the ABS in Hi range at highway speeds. Shall I go on?

No need. A firm thank you to the lawyers who made that possible. :flipoff2: I always forget about the yahoos who would get themselves into trouble and focus on those like us who actually know how to operate their cruisers somewhere other than the mall parking lot.

The rear cargo lamp is dependent on the seating arrangement, not DOT.

Vehicles without third row have a cargo lamp.

As far as the winch is concerned I bet if TMS USA had wanted that we would have gotten it.

So is it possible to retrofit this winch to US 80 model?

If you have a SOR catalog check out page 084 B, the CD version looks better. I could scan a picture and email it to someone if they want to post it.

From want I have seen, Dan is, probably goes without saying, correct. Looks like just a hole for the fairlead.

The last post in this thread has a newer 80 with the fairlead a little lower on the bumper. The one in the SOR catalog comes out right where the license plate would normally be.

I would love to get hold of one of the mounts and accessories. Internal controls? I bet my airbag system wouldn't like it.

I cant read Japanese but I infer that 3000 kgs (6600lbs) on that sticker means thats what its rated to pull on the first rap of cable. If thats true, thats a bit low. Are their factory ratings underrated? Any NA made 6000 lbs winch would burn up trying a sustained pull on an 80 on a 15% gravel grade, let alone a trail. I know the Toyota PTO winches are wimpy with their factory shear pins... do the electrics run along the same lines for how well they pull?

Cheers

Here's the OEM winch as shown in the FSM.
This is an option in Africa. I have all the illustrations of magnetic swith, placement etc. if anyone needs them. I think it will be a real mission to fit all the stuff on a stock unit.

Factory dual batteries-- heavy duty oil cooler, front,, centre & rear diff locks--OME heavy duty springs--custom front bumper--8000 winch--Safari snorkel--175 litre extra fuel tank.

That's why they don't import them into the U.S. People will think it's not powerfull enough. The rest of the world is just wrong:D

All the photos and diagrams above seem to relate to an electric winch that was one option - Toyota also provided a PTO winch which I believe was rated at around 10k although the manual is quoting a max of 4400lb/2000kg, although I'm wondering if this is more to do with the capacity of the cable.

Looking at my EPC and comparing to the one already provided it looks like the mountings are pretty well the same.
