Behind the Orange Curtain
I searched and could not find anything on this but I am new so forgive me if it has been discussed already. My cruiser was hit in the US drivers rear corner while parked and is almost done being fixed. I went to check on it today and noticed that the trim between the flare and rear quarter panel was painted (only rear half of the one flare). When questioned the guy said that you could only get it in black and paint it to match. I believe that is the case with special color paint but mine is a white 97, factory original, and never in an accident before. Looking at the rest of the "stock" flare trim they are slightly discolored with an uneven orange hue as plastic does after years of exposure to the sun. I also see the trim appears white behind the flare for the factory pieces and black on the new one if looked at from the "end" where the rear flare splits between the door and quarter panel. I am extremely anal and cannot handle looking at the different colored trim. I now have to replace them all to match even though I know this is a major pain. I really want Toyota parts not cheap aftermarket. CruiserDan or anyone know if this guy is full of it or am I screwed?

I just ordered the fender trim piece (long white rubber with sticky tape on it) for the rear passenger quarter panel for my 94 white LC from cdan. I am not sure if the 94 & 97 are the same, but the trim piece should be color matched. I have read that the 97s have plastic flares, my 94 has fiberglass if that makes a difference. When I ordered my replacement fender flare from cruiserparts.net, it came with the little black trim piece that goes on the flare between the door and quarter panel pieces but not the long one that goes the length of the flare. The original one had the little black piece at the end. The only time you would see it would be when the door is open.

Thanks Riley,

I figured if anybody would know or could get it, it would be Cdan. I will try to pm him later if he takes them.

I thought they were supposed to be made the same color. Last I heard the fiberglass and plastic flares are different. Unfortunately the plastic ones have hardware that is alot harder to get to and off. :frown:

He's full of it. You can get different colors. There is white for white LCs and black, for green, gray and black LCs. I don't know what color moulding they use for red, blue, pewter, desert dune or beige LCs, I don't have those colors yet. :D Have you try to use oxi-clean on the ones that's discoloring?
