Hi,
I just acquired a 97 LX-450.
My window regulator and lift motor has been replaced twice recently. I want to give let everyone know what I learned and why you should ALWAYS BUY TOYOTA EOM WINDOW REGULATORS AND LIFT MOTORS!
CARDONE
--------
CARADONE part number 47-1138 (Right-Hand/U.S. Drivers Side)
O'Reilly lists the motor for $106.00 (U.S.), they use the CARDONE part numer.
I bought my LX-450 from someone who had just put in a CARDONE lift motor. The motor failed after 1 week with a rainstorm.
Cardone is one of the largest U.S. remanufacturers of regulators. They are awfull! It looks like they may have rebuilt the internals of the motor, but the cast alloy body had some chips around the nut recesses and most importantly : The motor casing was cracked! The motor assembly casing had been very poorly cleaned up and then just dunked in heavy black paint. The casing cracks were painted over by CARDONE. It failed because water entered the cracked casing and shorted out the motor. When I took the motor out of the door, I turned the motor over and water poured out of it!
Yes, I am going to also replace the inner window wipers since there is obviously some water getting in the door...
MAXAIR/ACI:
-----------
p/n 88328 (Left Hand / US Drivers Side) and
88329 (for the Right Hand side)
ACI phone numbers: 866-962-9247 and 817-293-4600 (The are based in Fort Worth Texas), unit is made in Taiwan.
Can be purchased at Kragen, Checker, Shucks, PartsAmerica.com etc for $165+TAX
a local Austin retail store charged about $150.00 (U.S.) including tax., no core charge.
OK, so it has been well over 100 degrees here in Austin for over a week with the window stuck down with the Cardone unit. I have been burning up even with A/C on. In desperation I foolishly decided to find ANY replacement regulator & motor so I could drive around without cooking in the heat. I found a local store that had an ACI regulator in stock. ACI makes new (not rebuilt) aftermarket regulators with lift motors (Sold together only)
Here is what I found: I talked with ACI and learned that this is a new part for them (as of 2006). They don't sell too many of this item.
Upon inspection of the unit: ACI has a manufacturing error - They have reversed the left-hand/right motors on their regulators! The main body on the OEM and aftermarket units can accept either motor. The problem is that on my LX-450 The motor will not fit because it it is for the wrong door and it points upward instead of down. It hits the door stamping for the speaker. Fortunately the store had the other unit, so we swapped motor assemblies.
The pictorial guide from ACI also shows the motor in the wrong position (I saw this AFTER the fact).
Also the ACI motor casing is not exactly the same shape as the OEM so they are not interchangeable with the OEM regulators. This is bad because you will not be able to buy a factory OEM motor in the future.
The regulator is not as good as the OEM either: The rollers are cheap and not spring-loaded like the OEM. The bolt holes are tapped in the soft steel (It can be easily stripped). The OEM unit has superior hardened nuts tacked on to the arms. The arms have extra stamped ribbing to make them more rigid. ACI uses flat soft steel.
ACI put the wrong power connector plug on the the motor pigtail. I carefully removed the pins from the OEM plug and pushed the ACI pins in it (The ACI pins are at least compatible with the OEM plug).
So the ACI unit is installed. It works, it is equal in speed to the OEM part, but it is noisier...
TOYOTA OEM
----------
Left motors - Part numbers: 85710A and 85720A
Regulator for power window: 69801 (RH), 69802 (LH)
Quiet, Built to last, worth the price!
Don't waste your time buying aftermarket junk, get the OEM.
I would have been much better off just waiting for the Toyota parts to be shipped. A lot of time was wasted with the aftermarket parts.
I learned my lesson though: I will always buy Toyota parts.
I hope this helps out!
