Very Confusing. So, my 69 FST only has the driver side mirror and it is located 2 inches above the left vent--weird to have it located there and LivinginthePast has confirmed that they were never mounted there. Not sure why the PO would have taken off the factory mirrors and just put one on in such an unusual location. In addition, my mirror is square not round (which I think it should be). I have done research on what would be the correct side mirrors for my rig but am somewhat confused because they seem to be mounted in different locations on the window hinge and some with 2 attachment holes and some with 3. Also, I have seen some with square mirrors and some with round mirrors even on rigs of my year that are billed as being supposedly correct. I would like someone out there to say, Martin, I have 100% factory correct, plug and play mirrors with all attachment for your 69 FST that I will sell. I care less about the money it costs but more about getting it right. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

BTW, here is a pix of what I have now

My FJ45 1969 is the exact same color!!! great! Do you have an idea about the color code? I`m restoring it, I just bought a set of new side mirrors and I won`t need the original mirror that came with that car, let me send you a picture, just in case you want them, they need restoration but are original.

Thanks Sergio. If you can post the pix to my ad, that would be great as I would like one of the Mud experts to weigh in on the correctness of it. Actually, my rig was a repaint. The original paint underneath the green is white. I like the green so will keep it.

Thanks for the pix! Are the mirrors round or square?

Well those have to be original that's for sure. I wonder if the 45 utilize the same mirrors as the 40. Sergio, I need to double check and have someone on Mud confirm that what you have would be correct for my 40. If that is the case, I would love to buy them. For anyone on Mud who is in the know, your confirmation/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Martin

Marty, my '64 FST has mirrors on both sides mounted in the same spot that Sergio shows. In '64, a single driver's side mirror was factory, and there is no firm consensus that I have seen regarding round or rectangular mirror heads.

On mine, the left side bolts to captive nuts on the tub. The right was apparently added later - the telescoping arm is slightly different than the left one, and the bracket has nuts and fender washers retaining it to the tub.

I suspect my rectangular mirror heads are both aftermarket, since they show no sign of the original bandaid-color paint, and the ball stud is not metric thread.

Early picture from when I bought it.

Curious if the 69 FJ45 in Costa Rica market had mirrors on both sides. 9/67 (68 model) the single driver's mirror mounted to the A pillar moved to the upper door hinge in the US market. If that was because of DOT because of safety not sure. The passenger side also go one but doubt that had anything to do with DOT. Bought a new passenger car in 1973 and it only had one on the driver's door. Moving the mirror/s to door that was easily removable (FST) made no sense but that what they did. If not looking to drill hole holes in A pillar to mount the earlier mirror is to get some that bolt Lowee section of the windshield hinge. Those allow windshield to be folded down and not effect the mirrors.

Thanks for all the info guys. I’m used to old corvettes that were generally pretty consistent on correctness year by year with virtually zero mid year changes (John, you and I talked about that a while back). My confusion may not have been that misplaced.

Hi! I just noticed this: I took the pictures of the new arms and the original arms on my FJ45, the new ones are shorter than the original ones on the truck:

So, I think I´m going to restore the old mirrors since they are original to the car. Actually I don´t know why the new ones are shorter? I bought them at the Toyota dealer, those are Toyota parts.

I think you should restore them Sergio--good call on your part!

So I think I will buy the OEM Cruise Corp mirrors that mount on the windshield. l assume the actual mirrors would be rectangle for a 69 and not round?
