Curious if the 69 FJ45 in Costa Rica market had mirrors on both sides. 9/67 (68 model) the single driver's mirror mounted to the A pillar moved to the upper door hinge in the US market. If that was because of DOT because of safety not sure. The passenger side also go one but doubt that had anything to do with DOT. Bought a new passenger car in 1973 and it only had one on the driver's door. Moving the mirror/s to door that was easily removable (FST) made no sense but that what they did. If not looking to drill hole holes in A pillar to mount the earlier mirror is to get some that bolt Lowee section of the windshield hinge. Those allow windshield to be folded down and not effect the mirrors.

Good thoughts John. We will never know what some POs have done but for the life of me I can’t figure out why my rig has the mirror in such an odd location. Why take the old mirrors off and even if you did why go through the trouble of punching the body when he could have bought OEM mirrors and put them on the hinge — weird
