Okay. I feel like a jackhole.
Just did the "first time" on my new to me ’97. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV, fuel filter, air filter, etc. Went to NAPA for the parts (I’m a regular there for my Suburban). Anything NAPA didn’t have I got at Toyota. Apparently the PO trusted nothing but genuine Toyota parts (even the battery is Toyota). Everything I removed was Denso or Toyota, and I’m putting in NAPA brand shtuff. I’ve always felt NAPA products to be okay, but am I doing the Cruiser an injustice by not going OEM? It didn’t feel right…:o

After driving and working on Toyotas for the last ten years, I'll tell you this: OEM is cheaper, by far, in the long run.

NAPA makes some good stuff. However, Toyota spec parts are, from what I've seen, made to a higher standard. I've had to replace an alternator three times, from NAPA, on my old '90 truck. The OEM I finally bit the bullet on and bought from Toyota has lasted three years, so far. The NAPA ones were good for 12-18 months, then I had to pull 'em and take them down to the store for replacement. In terms of wasted time, I'd have been better off buying OEM, in the first place. In terms of frustration? Don't get me started...

Toyota parts may be pricey, but there's a reason for it. My 1993 FZJ-80 still had the factory original rotor, cap, and plug wires. They were still all good, when tested, but I replaced 'em with OEM, anyway. 13 years is a bit much to ask, y'know?

Besides, CDan has dogs to feed... :)

I would be interested to see some "smart shopper" OEM prices next to what you paid at Napa....

Everyone knows that prices for some (most?) Toyota parts are outrageous. However, for the parts you just listed, I'll bet every single one is not much more than at Napa. I was very surprised to find out how little most OEM general maintenance items cost.

Buy your parts from CruiserDan (vendors forum has contact info), great prices and great service, probably beats some of the NAPA prices, and almost definitely better quality.

I've read that CDan's the man. I thought that route might take too long. How fast is CDan's turnaround? I have to get the Cruiser CA smogged real soon, hence the 'quick' visit to the local shop.

(It's gonna be quick is't it?...

...I'm gonna feel like a jackhole all over again arent I?)

When I've ordered, it shipped the same day or next day, there was an item he didn't have in stock and he shipped the rest of the order right away, and the out of stock item when they received it. Also I believe shipping is free with a reasonable minimum order. The real bonus is, he will know exactly what part/s you need, even when you don't know all the parts involved in a particular job like front axle overhaul (the Toyota kit your local dealer will sell you is incomplete).

In CA, you will probably receive your parts in 2-3 business days

my experience has been same, my nearest dealer rarely has any thing for an 80 series in stock, they are expensive (above list) and dont know squat about an 80, I ushually have to point at the part on the screen, "I want that" Dan has all common 80 series parts and then some on hand and knows exaclty what you are talking about and can often give you tips on how to install it, I have found it is quicker to order from Dan than to order parts not in stock throgh the local dealer. planning ahead when you can and having some common parts on hand really mkes things go smoother,

trying to find parts imediatly for a rare japanese vehicle in west GA near the Bamma border is near imposible, realizing "oh crap I need part x to finish this job" sucks

If you call him in the morning, and it is in stock, I have never had him not get the parts out in the mail the same day.

Then it is just up to how far rom NM you are. I normally get mine in 2 days tops.

That's very reasonable.
The parts the dealership didn't have took, well, 2-3 days.
