Picking up an 03 LX this Friday. I know the hood struts are bad and I want to replace with OEM units. I know they cost more but I don't like aftermarket parts if I can help it. I am confused why the Lexus and Toyota parts are close but do not match. As far as I can tell the Lexus ones (53450-69036) cannot be purchased without the studs/ball joints on the end. The Toyota ones (53450-69026) look like I can separate it out. Anyone have firsthand experience with each?

The Lexus support is longer and thicker than the Land Cruiser's. It opens a little wider and supports more weight. Lexus felt needed, due to grill hanging on hood.

The part number you posted should get you all need. See the little bag.

I'm big on OEM parts myself. But hood supports is not a part I'd spend the extra money on to get OEM. I can buy aftermarkets for about what the tax will be on OEM, which work just as well. Some are a little shorter some are near as long as the Lexus ones. They all hold hood up. It's not a mission critical part nor does effect other systems.

It's a Japanese plot to cut off our heads.....

I picked mine off of Amazon....2 min install and work and look like OEM new.

Lift supports depot on amazon. Solid people. I either lost or didn’t get new ball mounts when I ordered from them, probably lost. They sent some out ASAP to me for free.

For one aftermarket struts doesn't last as long as OEM otherwise function the same. Struts is better than support rod as it provides working space up front but you can certain fab one and remove the struts as desired =)

I like struts and I'd prefer to pay the extra money for OEM. If someone knows of a brand like KYB or Bilstein that makes a phenomenal strut that will last 10+ years I would buy aftermarket. I don't like getting hit in the back of the head which is what happened last week.

It's your money, but how often are you hanging out under the hood? I'm personally hardly ever under the hood since the Cruiser is relatively trouble-free - so saving ~$160 by getting aftermarket struts on Amazon was a no-brainer to me (OEM Toyota $90/ea, Amazon $20/pair). 2yrs later, still working great :meh:

Edit: Amazon stuts #4361
