Hi, a week or so ago I started a thread re the possibility of using '93+ brakes on a pre '93 80 series, I thought I'd post up what I've found for the sake of others looking to do the same at some stage in the future!

Yes it does work, the newer larger (311x32 vs 286x25) discs bolt straight on as do the '93+ calipers (needed) and backing plates (needed or you can trim the existing one a little which is what I did)

The difference is noticable but it's not huge, main benefits should be much better fade resistance while towing or heavy braking and longer life when towing or braking heavily.

And you can also put in the bigger 100 series brake pads
 
I have the 100 series pads on my 92. Just takes more work.

I'm about to do this. I've seen a picture that Holmaas (LandPimp) took showing what 91-92 owners need to do to make the pads work. Did you do this as well? it takes some shaving off the edges, but I can't find the picture anymore. Do you know?

Will the 93+ rotors and calipers work on US spec?

Justa make the bottom of the pad look like the 92's. The inside pad can be a bit bigger but the outside has to match pretty close to keep it from rubbing on the hub. I could leave the little squel generators on the inside but not on the outside pad. The inside needs a bit more taper than the outside too but you'll see what I'm talking about once you get in there.

Also, I did notice when I checked the pads last time that the very center of inside pad is hanging over the inside of the rotor leaving a small lip of pad that does not wear.

Anyway, can anyone confirm is you can simply bolt up the rotors and calipers?
