Plan on doing a regear in a few months. I have been looking into OEM 4:56 and aftermarket ones. I was wondering if there are any major differences w/ using OEM vs aftermarket gears? For those of you who have regeared do you have any problems or regrets w/ going w/ oem or aftermarket? I know that Junk had went w/ OEM but am not sure if there was any specific reason behind that action. Any input or opinions would be great.

I know that OEM gears are $$$ but I still would just like to get different view points to see if it would be beneficial to go OEM. Thanks again.

Yng,
Christo and Robbie have done a bunch of swaps and could probably answer your question the best. My reasoning was simple, Christo had one set of OEM 4.56 left that he'd gotten in and I had the money at the time, so I went for it. I'm not sure what brand they are using right now.

OEM 4.56 gearsets are not available in the US thru normal venues. Toyota did not use 4.56 gears in the 80 series as far as I know. Certain other vehicles that had similar differentials had 4.56 gearsets available.

Christo has researched that and has, on occasion, obtained OEM gearsets in that ratio. Do be prepared to pay 4 to 5 times as much for OEM gearsets as most aftermarket versions bring.

Toyota gearsets are the best but they are damned expensive. An OEM 4.10 set will exceed seven hundred bucks for just a gearset.

I like setting up the OEM stuff as it usually is real easy. That said, they brake just the same. The quailty is higher (present in how easy they set up and look, finish is great). Christo and my self and one other gently man has broken a front set. So is it worth the price, you can judge. You would pay the same price to set them up(unless you set them yourself). You could save your self major money for other mods in the price difference. You would need to give christo lots of led time to get them(they come out of Japan direct to the shop). Unless they were almost the same price I personally will just buy high quality after market We currently use persion gears). later robbie

I have 4.88 precisions I got from Slee. Have about 20000 miles on them so far and am very happy.
Cheers,
