I'm coming from years (15+) of Audi Ownership. We still have two Audi's, but I picked up a 2005 LX570 recently and I'm amazed. Both of our Audi's have rear facing fog lamp(s).

Anyways, I'm a safety buff and I was wondering if anyone has retrofitted a OE Toyota fog lamp into an LC or LX470. Since the 100 series was sold in the EU, a rear fog lamp would have been mandatory. I'm assuming that Toyota used the factory tail lamp assembly and integrated a single filament bulb somewhere in one of the rear clusters.

The second question would be, where do they place the switch to turn it on/off, unless it's slaved to the front fog lamp switch on the stalk.

There is some talk about this on the 200 series side, but I haven't found anything related to this for the 100 series. The 200 series integrate the rear fogs into the lower reflector "dummy" lamps at the rear lower bumper, but these have to be added in the USDM to work.

(For those asking "whats a rear fog lamp and why do you want it?"...a rear fog light is usually a rear facing lamp faced towards the ground that emits a red color that mimics a brake light. When in a single lamp arrangement, it's usually on the drivers side of the vehicle indicating to other drivers the vehicles position in the driving lane while in dense fog or very heavy rain. Some vehicle's have rear facing fog lamps mounted in the rear main lighting clusters, while others have a dedicated spot elsewhere in the rear. I've seen the real world benefits of this while driving in Germany and France, so I think it's important. More data here: Automotive lighting - Wikipedia )

Yeap had an Audi A6 before with the rear fog light. I assuming it’ll be quite easy to add. And I agree in dense fog or other increment weather it’s a bonus for sure.

I have a steel aftermarket rear bumper and have a rear facing fog light (technically a cube light with red LaminX film) wired up and spliced with my front fogs so that it comes on when they are on. Never have figured out why we don't have the rear fogs in the US.

I'm planning to upgrade my rear tail lamps to the LED versions soon, so I can do some more investigating for a bulb spot. My goal would be to wire this in the OE way and using a factory switch (if it even exists). In some cases, this may require coding to keep a LED segment illuminated at full brightness even when the brakes aren't applied.

From a European or JDM LC/Cygnus:

So the fog light switch is in that panel...Looks like they can't open the side windows independently though. (headlamp adjustment...drool....)

Looks like the integrate the rear fog lamp into the rear inner back up lamp lenses.

Does anyone happen to have the part number for these tail lamp assemblies? (all four)

Ok, so forgive my ignorance. Why a rear fog light? For cars behind you to see you in fog? What color? Would it be a safety factor blinding rear vehicles if accidentally left on when there’s no fog? Final question, are they legal in the US?

My Allroad had those but I would say they weren’t foglights as much as safety lights .. mine were red and shined as bright as a brake light
So approaching driver can see you.. so yes rear foglights

From the land of “flashers for every weather event other than sunshine” also known as Tennessee, the rear fogs are fantastic. My wife has an LR3 and they get used here in Nashville more frequently than I had imagined as our interstates aren’t set up well for water shedding.

There are at least a coupken

This is why most every Volvo 240 I see looks like its brake lights aren’t working right. Folks drive around with that switch on all the time most likely not even knowing what it’s for.

Because even if it only provides another 20-30 feet of visibility, that can be the difference between a "that was close" moment and an exchange of insurance info moment.

Nothing much to add except that I've owned many Volvo 240s and loved that feature. If it were me running a stock bumper, I'd probably convert one of the dummy lenses in the lower bumper (there's kits all over eBay) and wire it to the factory fog lights.
