I'm coming from years (15+) of Audi Ownership. We still have two Audi's, but I picked up a 2005 LX570 recently and I'm amazed. Both of our Audi's have rear facing fog lamp(s).
Anyways, I'm a safety buff and I was wondering if anyone has retrofitted a OE Toyota fog lamp into an LC or LX470. Since the 100 series was sold in the EU, a rear fog lamp would have been mandatory. I'm assuming that Toyota used the factory tail lamp assembly and integrated a single filament bulb somewhere in one of the rear clusters.
The second question would be, where do they place the switch to turn it on/off, unless it's slaved to the front fog lamp switch on the stalk.
There is some talk about this on the 200 series side, but I haven't found anything related to this for the 100 series. The 200 series integrate the rear fogs into the lower reflector "dummy" lamps at the rear lower bumper, but these have to be added in the USDM to work.
(For those asking "whats a rear fog lamp and why do you want it?"...a rear fog light is usually a rear facing lamp faced towards the ground that emits a red color that mimics a brake light. When in a single lamp arrangement, it's usually on the drivers side of the vehicle indicating to other drivers the vehicles position in the driving lane while in dense fog or very heavy rain. Some vehicle's have rear facing fog lamps mounted in the rear main lighting clusters, while others have a dedicated spot elsewhere in the rear. I've seen the real world benefits of this while driving in Germany and France, so I think it's important. More data here: Automotive lighting - Wikipedia )
