First, introductions:

Nevadans, meet Chris.
Chris, meet Nevadans.

This might be a little late in the game, and I think it's going to sound strange.

But...

I'm getting married in Las Vegas on February 29. That's not the strange part.

This is:

I'm hoping to find a Nevadan 'Mudder in the 'Vegas area, that has a dark green FJ40, that they would be willing to rent/loan to me for the classic, "Just Married" drive away from the chapel.*

Am I right, does that sound strange?

If I've lost your interest here, feel free to move on, to the next, more exciting thread.*

Anyone still reading, here's the skinny:

Myself and Heather, have been together since the May long-weekend 2002, when she moved to Calgary, from Newfoundland, via a couple of years at the National Theatre School, in Montreal. I also work in theatre, and that's how we met. She toured into the theatre I was running in *January 2000, and the rest is... Well, you know.

Specifically we're theatre technicians, just so you don't think I'm one of those flakey actor types.

Anyway, during that first May long-weekend, I decided it would be a good idea, to introduce her to Land Cruisers, and off-roading.*

So we went out to meet up with the rest of the RMLCA group, for a day of wheeling. To my surprise, she had a great time.

But she really showed me she was a keeper, was:

After the day wheeling, sitting around the fire, the rest of the RMLCA'ers tried to convince us to stay the night, even though we had planned to head home at the end of the day. They had an extra tent, and sleeping bags. Again, to my surprise, she agreed.

Then it got strange.

Halfway through my first beer, I had been planning on driving home after all, it was discovered that the brother (and his buddy), of a guest cruiser head, who had long since worn out his welcome at our campfire, had gotten into a fight with a group of teenagers. These were grown men in their late 20's. It was a short one, as the only damage was to the brother, with one punch, though he claimed someone took a swing at him with a tree branch, the flesh between his nose and upper lip, was split clean through... As in, he could breathe through the hole.

Why am I telling you this?

Well, I was only halfway through my first beer. Therefore I was the only one legal to drive the guest cruiser head and his dumb-ass brother to the hospital. So, I did. This left Heather, with a group of people, she had just met, in the woods, in the middle of... Well she didn't know where she was, and it was coming up on sleepy time.
The group got her set-up in the tent with a sleeping bag, and there she was.
Fourth day in Alberta, in the middle of Alberta... She thought, in someone else's sleeping bag, in someone else's tent, alone, and as I found out later, terrified!

Turns out, I had abandoned someone who had never been wheeling, never been camping, never slept in a tent, and never really slept in a sleeping bag.

After driving the brothers to the nearest small town that had a hospital, and then informing them that, they were going to stay there in a motel, while I took their truck back to camp. The Cruiser-head, Jarod, who, unlike his brother was a pretty good guy, didn't even try to argue. Like me he figured hiss brother would be looking for some un-deserved revenge if we took him back.

So off I went, to sleep the rest of the night beside a much relieved Heather.

If the morning, we trailered Jarod's cruiser, and hitched it to his truck. His brother's friend drove it to town, Heather drove the brother's truck, and I lead the way in my FJ40, to the motel, and then we set-off for home.

Our first weekend together, was quite the strange adventure.

After all that, she stayed!*

That's why she's a keeper!

It would mean a lot to me to be able to surprise Heather with driving away, "Just Married" in a cruiser.

It'd be great if it was a green FJ40, 33's, stock rollbar, with the top off.

But really, any Land Cruiser would be great.

If you think you could help me out, you can reach me at:

If you want some references, and really you should. You can check with any of the RMLCA, Mud regulars:

Behemoth60

I hope these folks will vouch for me, although I do owe lowenbrau a bottle of scotch.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Sorry, I live in So. Calif... Just wanted to say great story and I can tell you without question, my significant other of 17 years wouldn't even stand (lie, sit) for that ! And it would forever more be used as leverage next time I expressed even the slightest reluctance to do something with "her" friends ...

Wow, congratulations Chris & Heather!! I remember that evening... and often find myself saying something about "falling on a swinging stick". Anyway, I'll put some feelers out and see if I can find anyone who can help you out.

:beer::beer::beer:

Congratulations to you and Heather, Chris!

Congratulations from me too.

I will vouch for these two though I'd probably vouch for Jerod's dumb-ass brother if I thought it would get me a bottle of scotch. I was there that night (10-12 years ago?) and was impressed by Chris' sense of responsibility to haul that sack of trash to the ER even though it meant leaving his date behind.

Good Luck!

all I got say is "nipple clamp"

that and:

Congrates you guys, it's about time.

Chris, I think the NV guys will come through for you. I've meet quite a few of them and they are like cruiserheads everywhere. GEEEEREAT

edit: you going to that Elvis chapal?

Chris,

I have a mustard 1979 FJ40 here in Vegas. It has the top on it and the paint is peeling a bit. It is a good 50 foot rig. It could probably be available for your use. E-mail me at SSyzdek at Gmail. com. I could clean it up a bit for your use.
Hope this helps.

Congrats Heather and Chris ...
I had forgotten that time at the Red River camp ground. yep Brooks (Jarod) was a cool guy and the Airdre kids took it well. Good times back then.
