I drove 5 hours towing ~900 lbs., picked up a ~900 lb. motorcycle, and was driving 5 hours back. I'm not sure if it mattered, but about halfway we went through torrential downpours. Toward the end of the trip, when I accelerated to go up a hill or pass someone, it would downshift, but then lose a lot of power (slowing down slightly rather than speeding up), and the RPMs were fluctuating ~500 RPM up and down. This was around 65-75mph. I'd let off the accelerator, it would upshift, and drive normally. If I slowly accelerated, it would operate normally. I checked the trans temps immediately after, and they were in the 130-140 range. At the next stop I checked the ATF level and it was directly on the Hot line.
Before I reached my destination I tried it 2 or 3 more times, and it did the same thing. Since then it has operated normally commuting to work (no towing loads, no highway speeds).
Also may or may not be related, while in the town I was visiting to pick up the bike, while driving at night I heard a very loud thump underneath. I'm not sure what I ran over, but I pulled over and shined a light around and couldn't see any obvious damage. I haven't done the research yet, but I wasn't sure if the LC has a kickdown cable or something like that which could have been damaged or misadjusted by road debris. Is that a possibility? What should I look for?
