Ok folks as discussed at the last meeting we wanted to look into options for a canvas wall tent. This thing would be used for ice fishing, camping, cook shack and shelter duties at events. I contacted 2 Canadian Producers of the tents and results are below.

Option 1: Deluxewalltents.ca
Seems like a nice company. 2 doors on the tent one with a screen
2 windows
family owned and ran
heavy gauge steel stove
come with alum poles for frame and fittings for set up
they make 400 tents a year, well reviewed
2300 assumes a deal given for not for profit. seemed liked 200 would be what he'd offer
Made on Vancouver Island with free shipping to the bus depot

Option 2
Airdrecanvas.ca
2 windows,
1 door with screen too
stove jack where ever you like
light gauge stove. Said they are light to pack and last a long time. one example of 30 years of life
2100 including stove.
Alum poles and fittings for frame kit

Option 3
Same 2 but we find our own stove
1950

Option 4
scour kijiji for military tent or used
larger some are 18' x 36
no internal frame so we'd need to make one or take longer to set up
need to find a stove too
cheaper
more work

Option 5
wait for a deal to pop up on kijiji

Option 6
toughen up you mamby pambies

Pick your top two options. I really like the deluxe wall tents. Guy was nicer on the phone and quality seems there. Airdre guy sorta seemed like every other alberta company.... 'ya we have tents, how many you want, oh you want service.......ok......' but that was just a first impression. I like one stop shop for stove too. These guys will know what works

So vote vote and we'll figure it out.

Deluxe with stove, cause I'm lazy and it's cool and I'm lazy

I'd vote #1 one as well, not sure we need it but I like the idea of the porch, adds storage under a roof that's not inside the tent. There's a December special on our tent size ATM, so lets jump on this! Another thought, you could rent it out to club members for a nominal fee that goes back in the club coffers.

If you want a deal, there's also a used section on deluxe wall tents site, some are used, some not, you deal with the tent owners though, not a company.

What's the rush??

Ice fishing!!!!

February!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so the ad from Kijiji seems to have just disappeared, but I went to this liquidation place on 131 Ave, pretty much right behind this strange propane company on 149th street call DDR Propane and Rentals.

They were advertising a 12x14 wall tent "Grizzly" brand for $750. I went and looked at it, but because I have never actually seen a canvas wall tent in person, I have no idea of what the quality is like. They actually have one set up right at the entrance, but about 6-7 feet off the floor so I could hardly reach it to feel the canvas, and some of us (like the pres) wouldn't even be able to touch it, but it does give you a really good feel of the size. It is quite big. There is a window at the back and the full front is screened but there is no "door", the front is just split up the middle. the other thing is the stovepipe hole is at the front of the tent on the left. Not sure, but it seemed like an odd spot to me.

I also found out that the $750 is just for the tent, and the frame is another $200, but at least it is Cad plated.

Apart from not being able to judge the quality at all, it seems like it could work as at test run to see if we need one or if it even gets used enough. Or for the price, two could be purchased and then we have our modular idea.

Anyways, just thought I'd post it. I would have taken pics but my phone screwed up on me.

OK, found their website. http://www.wholesaleliquidators.ca/monthly-specials.html

And here is a pic from their website. (I think their 'compare @" price is inflated, but they always are)

Not sure if interested but my hunting parter is selling his Cabelas Alaknak tent. It's a modern day outfitters tent. 12x20 with vestibule

I inherited an old, heavy duty Alberta Forestry tent from my dad and uncle's hunting group. They bought it used over 35 years ago and set it up for months at a time. I now use it a 3-4 weeks a year and it's still in excellent condition. I'd avoid the liquidation world tent, it's lighter weight canvas than what you can get from deluxe or airdrie canvas and I can't imagine it lasting as long as mine has.

If you're planning on having a bunch of guys standing up in the tent make sure to get the 5' high walls. My tent is 12x14x4 and while it's ok for cots, you can't stand up next to the side walls.

If you buy on old used tent, make sure the walls are white. My buddy has an old tent with dark yellow canvas and it's really dark inside even during the day.

Ok so it seems like Canvas is the ticket and the place in BC could be the go to. We have the funds now available so we can make the purchase. I need 2 others to pipe up and say "do it" and I'll give them a call for the tent. That way we have it well ahead of the fishing trip...

Yes, buy the tent. If I go on the fishing trip I may be sleeping in it the rest of my life! Wedding anniversary is Feb 21! Ice fishing trip is same weekend...

Well I dropped some funds off with the secretary and will call to place tent order today. Should the fishing weekend move? Steve can't make and now Jason? Are others good to go? We also have no cabin confirmation. So there is that...

I can go, just need to do a fantastic anniversary celebration on a different date. But if we move it, make sure its a full moon, so the fish are biting and wolves are howlin'.
