Hi all

Does techstream work for all fault code finding and live value reading… or is it not that good generally however does specialise for AHC and key programming please?

I ask as I have a TPS throttle position sensor issue and am considering buying an autel ds708 OBD reader as it appears to be very good for general use on multiple family vehicLes as well as well as my own. As well as reading live values (not sure if it’s laggy or my TPS is the issue)

I’ve been reading up on techstream - but it seems for my 1999 model 100 series that it would be very limited as I understand it’s only really good for ahc and key programming? Or am I wrong and it does in fact have everything needed such as the ability to scan for codes and live readings too?

I’d rather just have one reader and ideally the cheapest option which seems to be techstream. As the autel ds708 is £200 and I’m tight for cash at the minute

Can anyone tell me just how useful TS is please?

Is there a specific firmware update and cable model for my year cruiser?

Is ts slow to load and / or laggy?

The autel seems to be very fast and can read literally everything. Although I don’t know how well it reads live. Maybe someone else on here has used it with a cruiser and can tell me?

Thanks

Chris

I have techstream and an eBay dongle iirc, 60usd. Works great.
Just bought and tried out an xtool D7 after great review by thecarcarenut on YouTube, a great channel by a Toyota master tech, check out his channel. Great car and Toyota info.

The AHC portions on the xtool seemed to cover everything on my 2002 lx.

I got the xtool to use on 2023 sienna for electric parking brake reset, as my techstream is too old.

Techstream is the official Toyota tool and will do everything. Any other tool may have limitations. Just get Techstream with a $30 cable and have at it.

Echoing the post above but also: You may have seen that techstream is limited for the 98/99 models because those trucks don't have a ton of modification options within TS like later models. I'm guessing things like window roll down settings, key lock/ unlock settings, beeps, etc. As far a diagnostic, it is the most complete you will find.

Thanks guys

I’m having a headache accessing the software please see attached

Even if I turn firewall off

Any clues peeps?
